Learn more on the Border Force careers page.

**Job description**:
Border Force Maritime Command handles and coordinates the Border Protection Squadron (BPS) which consists of offshore patrol vessels (Cutters); and inshore patrol vessels (Coastal Patrol Vessels). The vessels are crewed with highly trained Border Force officers who carry out maritime law enforcement, surveillance and security duties.

The Squadron Operates against a wide variety of threats including drug smuggling, firearms, Organised Immigration Crime and Modern-Day Slavery and Human Trafficking.

The Command also deploys National Deep Rummage Teams (NDRT) which are fully trained in the safe search of technical and dangerous spaces on vessels ranging from large commercial ships to work and pleasure craft. They can operate independently or in support of Maritime Command operations.

Working alongside key partners such as HM Coastguard, the National Crime Agency, Police and international law enforcement partners, the Command is an intelligence led organisation. The MCC plays a vital role in supporting all aspects of intelligence gathering and development undertaken by the Squadron and works in close coordination with the Border Force Maritime Intelligence Bureau (MIB) and other agencies.

The Maritime Command Centre (MCC) is located within the National Maritime Information Centre (NMIC) which co-locates government departments and law enforcement bodies who hold an interest in maritime security. The Command shares information and works collaboratively with other partners across a range of tasks, thereby ensuring the most appropriate and proportionate ‘whole of government’ response is delivered to meet threats in UK home and adjacent waters.

This is a demanding and highly specialist role which regularly requires MCC officers to manage and coordinate multifaceted and fast paced deployments and to provide live time briefing and domain awareness updates to Senior Managers including the A.D. Operations.

MCC Officers deploy on a 24/7 working pattern which attracts an Annual Hours Allowance (See further information).

**Please Note**: Due to the nature of the work and operational business requirement plus an element of shift working, these roles are not suitable for part time working.

**Person specification**:
Acting as part of a team and supporting the MCC Higher & Senior Officers the post holder will assist in:

- Coordinating the deployment of Squadron vessels in response to a variety of threats.
- Collaborating closely with key partners such as HM Coastguard, in order to achieve the operational objectives.
- Planning, monitoring and adjusting the deployment of Border Force Border Protection Squadron assets and - where necessary - synchronising them with NDRT and other stakeholder teams and assets.
- Managing the operational response during live maritime enforcement operations across the spectrum of control strategy responsibilities, including but not limited to counter narcotics, organised immigration crime, national security, safeguarding and modern slavery offences and humanitarian events.
- Monitoring frontline deployment, taking remedial action where necessary in both the planning cycle and during real-time operations to protect operational capability.
- Updating and maintain deployment records in the Maritime Emergency Response Team role, providing oversight in the management of officer safety.
- Real time reporting to senior managers, the Border Force departments and other partner organisations where necessary.
- Production of management information reports and delivery of daily briefings.
- Co-ordination for special events requiring a maritime input.
- Implementation of command and control, critical incident management and business continuity plans.

- A detailed knowledge of the disclosure of chains and evidence.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
