Defence Children Services are looking to recruit a Welfare and Social Work Team Clerk to provide administrative support to the team.
The DCS Vision is that we Educate the Child - Support the Family - Defend the Nation.
Defence Children Services (DCS) is a Defence delivery organisation, subordinated under Army Regional Command. HQ DCS is UK based at Trenchard Lines, Upavon and has forward deployed staff all over the world. DCS is responsible for the education and care of children of accompanied Service and Defence entitled personnel in MOD schools and settings; provides advice and guidance in respect of education for service families in the United Kingdom and the wider world.
This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.
**Job description**:
The DCS Welfare and Social Work Team (DCS-SSS-WSW) are based at Upavon and led by the SEO Welfare and Social Work Team Leader. The Welfare and Social work team include Education Welfare Officers in Cyprus and Rest of World as well as responsibility for Electively Home Educated children and young people and the British Forces Social Work Contracts.
The DCS(WSW) clerk provides a key role within DCS, providing all aspects of confidential business and administrative support to the Welfare and Social Work Team. The post holder is responsible to the Welfare and Social Work Team Leader.

**Person specification**:
The post holder’s key responsibilities and main duties are:
- Assist with preparation material for the DCS(WSW) SharePoint and contributions to the DCS Newsletter.
- Respond in a sensitive and appropriate manner to those contacting the Safeguarding Team concerning cases and concerns, maintaining confidentiality at all times.
- Undertake administrative tasks relating to the monitoring of implementation of relevant policies and procedures.
- To be proficient in the use and manipulation of ‘My Concern’.
- Collate feedback and manage data from various sources, sensitively and confidentially.
- Prioritise tasks to ensure deadlines are met and distribute information effectively to the correct audiences.
- Assist in producing and managing a safeguarding online file structures and databases.
Knowledge and Experience
- Competent in using IT packages including Microsoft Office 365.
- Good understanding of principles of confidentiality and data protection (or ability to acquire this).
- Evidence of communication skills in person and in writing.
- Evidence of excellent organisational ability.
- Experience of establishing and maintaining filing systems/databases.
- Experience of delivering to agreed timelines and evidence of the ability to secure inputs from third parties to meet those deadlines.
- Ability to demonstrate excellent literacy, numeracy and IT skills

- Self-starter who can take initiative and meet deadlines.
- Reliable and discreet when handling sensitive information.
- Experience of working within an organisation with a safeguarding focus (eg social services, education, health, police).
- Ability to liaise confidently with all levels of staff across Defence Children services.
- Communicate effectively with Military Chain of Command and wider MOD partners.
- Good understanding of safeguarding or ability to acquire this.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to respond sensitively.
