Defence Children Services (DCS) has a vacancy for an **NHS** **Band 7 Health and Wellbeing Advisor** to join the Defence Children Services organisation whose Headquarters is based in Wiltshire. You will play a vital role in supporting and improving the educational outcomes of c.5000 children and young people in Service Families. DCS has staff working in Military establishments across the world. Our services include the provision of advice, guidance and support concerning the education and safeguarding for service families in the United Kingdom and across the world. This includes operating MOD schools and settings for the children of Defence personnel (Service and Civilian) serving overseas.

The **DCS Health and Wellbeing Advisor (HWA) **will work as part of the** Safeguarding (Health and Wellbeing) Team **who** **are based at Upavon and led by the SO1 - Safeguarding and Allegations Manager. The Safeguarding team include specialist Safeguarding, Nursing, Health and Wellbeing advisors and are supported by a Clerk. The safeguarding team are responsible for the quality of safeguarding delivery in DCS Schools and Settings.

The **DCS HWA** will promote the health of school aged children, and the wider school community, ensuring adequate school and community-based health education programmes and activities, and through direct input in school health education programmes and teaching alongside education staff in school settings.

The DCS HWA will contribute to the safeguarding, and protection of school aged children at risk of abuse and to provide ongoing monitoring, support and advice. The fundamental role of the DCS HWA is to ‘co-ordinate and deliver public health interventions’ to improve children and young people’s health and wellbeing within Defence Children Services.

The DCS HWA is a qualified and experienced nurse, specialising in public health and young people who will provide an easily accessible young person friendly, clinically effective high-quality service

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

**Job description**:
They will provide an assessment of the requirement for and if appropriate authorise overtime and agency nurse payments. Provide professional/clinical supervision and teach/deliver specialist training for other nurses employed within DCS. Regularly undertake research activity to improve outcomes for service children.

**1. The post holder’s key responsibilities and main duties are**:

- Assess health and wellbeing plans contributing to Early Help support, implement proposals in a variety of settings and provides highly specialist Subject Matter Expert (SME) advice and guidance across DCS Schools and Settings and with partner health providers as required.
- Develop, co-ordinate and review deliver Public Health protocols to improve children and young people’s health and wellbeing Facilitate supervision for DCS nursing Establishing/maintaining health links within and outside of the MOD including the NHS, associated Host Nation and Private facilities in conjunction with Defence Healthcare partners.
- Complete Assurance visits to all DCS establishments in the UK and Overseas
- Provides specialist education and training to other staff, students and other MOD staff supporting DCS Schools and Settings.
- Undertake research and lead clinical audits in their own specialist area
- Caldicott[1] Lead for DCS Ensure high quality relevant management information is maintained and analysed to improve outcomes for Service Children, and when required, shared appropriately.
