Operating Department Practitioner

**Job Overview**
The Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) plays a vital role in the surgical team, providing high-quality care to patients undergoing surgical procedures. This position requires a dedicated professional who is skilled in various aspects of patient care, including critical care and infection prevention. The ODP will work closely with surgeons, anaesthetists, and nursing staff to ensure a safe and efficient operating environment.
**Responsibilities**
- Assist in the preparation of the operating theatre, ensuring all equipment is sterile and ready for use.
- Support anaesthetists during the induction of anaesthesia and monitor patients throughout surgical procedures.
- Maintain aseptic technique at all times to prevent infection and ensure patient safety.
- Provide direct patient care before, during, and after surgery, ensuring comfort and addressing any concerns.
- Collaborate with the surgical team to analyse patient needs and adapt care accordingly.
- Demonstrate knowledge of anatomy and physiology to assist in surgical procedures effectively.
- Implement infection prevention control measures in line with hospital policies.
- Participate in the education and training of junior staff and students within the department.
- Maintain accurate medical records and documentation as required by hospital protocols.
**Skills**
- Strong knowledge of critical care practices and protocols.
- Proficient in aseptic techniques to ensure patient safety during procedures.
- Comprehensive understanding of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology relevant to surgical practice.
- Experience or knowledge in paediatrics is advantageous for those working with younger patients.
- Ability to analyse situations quickly and make informed decisions under pressure.
- Familiarity with working in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) setting is beneficial.
- Excellent communication skills to effectively liaise with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
- Strong commitment to patient care and continuous professional development within the field.
**Job Types**: Full-time, Part-time, Zero hours contract
Pay: £35.00-£45.00 per hour
