Aon is currently recruiting an experienced Catastrophe Modeller to join our Analytics team in London.
Aon's Catastrophe Modelling team is the best regarded of its kind in Europe. The team sits within Aon Reinsurance Solutions and provides clients with advice on their exposures to natural disasters such as windstorms, floods and earthquakes. These clients include London market (re)insurers, and global reinsurers buying retrocession.
Comprised of enthusiastic and team-oriented individuals, the catastrophe modelling team is continuously looking for ways to evolve our clients’ understanding and view of catastrophe risk. Working closely with our brokers, academic partners and our model evaluation specialists enables us to perform and draw from expert analysis and experience to make better decisions for our clients.
Using both traditional catastrophe models (RMS/AIR/CoreLogic) and Aon’s in-house modelling platform ELEMENTs, we demonstrate the power of Impact Forecasting and external modelling solutions such as JBA; to quantify the financial impact of natural and human-made catastrophes on our clients’ portfolios. This also includes developing custom solutions for our clients to best represent their portfolios and loss experience. About Aon Reinsurance Solutions

As a Catastrophe Modeller some of your key responsibilities will involve:
Analytical support (client reports, meetings and presentations)
Working with Aon’s client teams to deliver catastrophe modelling and analytical support.
Provide technical solutions in a digestible manner to both internal and external stakeholders at client meetings, presentations, market studies, tenders and reports. Catastrophe Modelling
Running natural catastrophe models to quantify the likelihood and severity of natural catastrophes for client renewals
Undertaking sensitivity testing to help clients understand impact of data quality, data and modelling assumptions and any planned portfolio change,
Collaborating with academic and industry partners to validate and create innovative solutions for the (re)insurance market.
Knowledge sharing of market and model experience with the wider team.
Liaising and collaborating with other teams and offices worldwide. Development of Risk Models
Working closely with the model evaluation team to revise and challenge existing catastrophe models to deliver client views of risk that is more relevant to their business.
Contribution to the development of new Impact Forecasting models
There is a responsibility for working in accordance with the Aon UK Limited Risk Management Framework, and compliance with the Aon UK Limited policies, including participation in the management of risks (including completion of mandatory training) that may adversely affect the business, interests or reputation of any Group Company.
About you As a Catastrophe Modeller your skills and qualifications will ideally include:
Working knowledge of vendor cat models (RMS and AIR).
Understanding of the science of natural catastrophes and ability to validate and interpret the modelled loss estimates.
Strong technical problem-solving skills.
Ideally experience at a broking house within an analytical team, with a commercial/client focus.
Good communication skills with ability to present to a wide audience (insurance companies and reinsurance markets) on Modelling Outputs / View of Risk / Model evaluation roadshows.
Strong project management, with capability to work in a team, independently, working under pressure, multi-task and ability prioritise work.
Skilled with multi-relational database management systems and coding (SQL, R)
Dashboard Analytics and GIS experience also of major benefit (e.g. Tableau, ArcGIS)
