**Come and be part of something amazing**

As a member of our Complex Care Support Team, you will be passionate about making a difference to an individual’s life. The purpose of the role is to support our customers to achieve life goals and aspirations through social, emotional, physical and cultural requirements in a person centred way, as outlined in the customers individualised care plan, in a manner that is professional, positive and upholds the values of SCiA.

We are currently looking for compassionate support workers to provide support to a young man in his 20’s who currently lives in the Gosport area.

Your primary purpose will be to support this individual to live a meaningful, happy life. You will empower him to identify his goals, pursue hobbies, support his health and wellbeing, and be a part of the local community. This young man is an avid film buff, therefore an interest in films would be an advantage, particularly Harry Potter and Marvel Films

**You will succeed because**

You’re an experienced, empathetic and resilient Support Worker, deeply committed to assisting people with additional needs who can present challenging behaviour. You’re compassionate, observant, patient and confident in handling potentially difficult situations. You are skilled in monitoring changes in mood and developing techniques to calm and de-escalate. Ideally you will have knowledge and experience of complex needs including autism. You’re able to communicate clearly and sensitively with vulnerable people and their families, and always adopt a person-centred approach.

**You will love it because**

You enjoy helping individuals to be independent through companionship, providing reassurance and enabling confidence. You take pride in doing a great job and are happy assisting with cooking, domestic duties, personal care, attending appointments and social activities. You’re keen to develop your career through training, learning and gaining relevant qualifications.

**What does a Support Worker do, I hear you ask**

A Support Worker's role can be wide and varied, and no two days are the same - but here’s an idea of what you could be doing:
Promoting and encouraging independence, whilst assisting the people we support with their daily routines

Identifying new opportunities for integration, participation and inclusion, available to the people we support, both within our services and the community

Providing quality personal care, which could include bathing, toileting etc. depending on individual needs, while maintaining respect and sensitivity

Participating in household tasks, which include cleaning, cooking, ironing, washing etc. while encouraging the people we support to join in

Working with the people we support to implement appropriate strategies for when behaviours that challenge may occur

Engaging in conversation and sometimes having a belly laugh together over something silly

**About SCA Care**

Social Care in Action is a group of charitable social enterprises providing community services across Southern England. Everything we do is focused on supporting individuals to lead the life they want, in the way they want. As a not-for-profit organisation every penny we make in surplus is reinvested back into the wider communities we work with. Our head office is in Southampton, with our main services delivered across Southampton, The New Forest and surrounding areas.

If you’re successful, we need you to have an Enhanced Disclosure Check through the Disclosure and Barring Service which we’ll pay for.
