Phd Studentship: Functional Mechanisms of Somatic

Cambridge, United Kingdom University of Cambridge Full time

**PhD studentship**: Functional mechanisms of somatic mutations in chronic liver disease.

**Department/location**: Early Cancer Institute, Cambridge Biomedical Campus.

Applications are invited for a 4-year PhD studentship to join the group of Dr Matt Hoare within the new Early Cancer Institute on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus. Our group is interested in why patients with chronic liver disease develop liver cancer. This is an exciting opportunity to join a CRUK-funded programme, based on previous findings from the group (Brunner et al, Nature, 2019; Ng et al, Nature, 2021). For further information about the research group, including our most recent publications, please visit

**Project**:
**Place**:
The recently launched Early Cancer Institute (ECI) is the first scientific institute in the UK to focus on early cancer development. The ECI is located at the heart of the CRUK Cambridge Centre, a dynamic collaboration of academic researchers, clinicians, and the pharmaceutical and biotech industries. By being part of the Centre, students will have the opportunity to attend a number of lecture series, workshops and meetings aimed at facilitating and strengthening collaborations between complimentary disciplines and across different departments and institutes.

**Funding**:
This 4-year studentship is funded by Cancer Research UK and includes full funding for University and College fees, in addition to a stipend currently of £19,000 per annum.

**How to apply**:
The University has a responsibility to ensure that all employees are eligible to live and work in the UK.
