Speech and Language Therapy Assistant

Swansea Bay University Health Board in collaboration with Swansea Council, Neath Port Talbot Council and Hillside Secure Unit is offering a rare and exciting opportunity for a Speech and Language Therapy Assistant (SLTA) to join our well-established Youth Justice (YJ) Speech and Language Therapy service for a fixed term period of 12 months.
You will be working with children and young people aged 10-18 who have a range of speech, language and communication needs and are within the YJ service.
The post will be based between Swansea YJ Service, NPT YJ Service and Hillside Secure Childrens Home. You will be working alongside a Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist and a Multidisciplinary Team including Social Workers, SW Police and Education.
You will need to demonstrate a willingness to be flexible, manage your time efficiently, work well in a team and be a confident communicator, particularly in regards to sharing information with others.
We can offer you opportunities for in-house training, supervision and work in a variety of settings.
You will be working under the direction of a qualified Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist. A key part of this role is working with other professionals to support the speech, language and communication needs of the children and young people open to the services.
You will assist in developing speech and language friendly resources/programmes around offending behaviour, and support the delivery of training relating to targeted speech and language therapy programmes of work.
You will be expected to input into specific databases, complete observations and gather data under the direction of a Speech and Language Therapist so a good working knowledge of IT is essential.
Visits and contact with the Clinical Lead SLT to discuss the role and understand the service are encouraged and very welcome whenever possible.
