In 2021 Turntide acquired three North East businesses to establish our presence in the UK - those businesses were Borg Warner in Gateshead, Hyperdrive in Sunderland and Avid in Cramlington. The acquisitions allowed us to extend our Smart Motor System to the transportation sector and help turn the tide on climate change.
There is a massive change happening across Transportation. This is an exciting opportunity for an intern to join our world-class Controls team in a growing organisation. Successful applicants will work within our Controls team to support one or more engineers in execution of assignments. You will be allocated a mentor to support you during your work, growth and development and you will be working on exciting projects to improve our product performance and enhance our customer's experience to help achieve our vision of a sustainable future for all.
**The Job**
In this role the Controls Intern will be responsible for the following:
- Supporting the Controls team with the development, calibration, verification and validation of controls algorithms and systems for electrification products such as motor inverters.
- Supporting Sales and Product Applications Engineering in the calibration and debugging of Turntide electrification products to achieve a high level of performance and customer satisfaction.
- Supporting engineers and technicians with calibration, development and testing of electrification products such as motor inverters.
- Characterising motors to work efficiently with Turntide inverters and supporting development of automated motor characterisation systems.
- Supporting the test technology team with the safe installation and usage of dyno equipment, and set-up of motors and inverters on the dynos.
- Following required company processes.
- Ensuring all work is carried out safely.
**The Requirements**
- Experience with model-based development tools such as Matlab/Simulink, or similar software programming languages.
- Competent to work safely in an Engineering Lab-based environment.
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
- Good attention to detail and time management skills
- Ability to interact with cross-functional teams.
- Self-motivated, results-oriented, and excellent problem-solving abilities.
- Highly developed analytical and organizational skills.
**Bonus Points**
- Experience with control algorithms for typical electric motors, including technologies such as Induction, IPM, PM, SynRM, SRM motors.
- Experience with power electronic products, such as motor inverters, DCDCs or chargers.
- Familiarity MATLAB / Simulink and auto-generation of code.
- Programming languages such as Python or C.
- Practical usage of Dynos.
- Previous experience working with electrification products and systems.
