**About The Job**
**Salary**: £50,105 to £53,538 per annum.
**Contract**: Permanent.
**Hours**: Full time, 37 hours per week.
**Location**: Jobs Depot, Hicksead - hybrid working available.
The Area Highway Manager is a critical role to ensure local delivery of the highway service. The role puts customers, communities and our members at the heart of everything we do.
The Area Highway Manager will lead a team who delivers the highways service in a discrete geographical area and may have a countywide specialism/ responsibility for an aspect of the highway service. The Area Highway Manager role will focus on the effectiveday to day operations of the service through the management of a small team, and will operate as the principal professional in regard to team operations. This will include the performance management of the team and the co-ordination, planning and deliveryof agreed activities and objectives.
You will contribute to the development, and shape of future team or group service provision, and build and maintain relationships, influencing activities including working across and outside of the organisation. As part of a wider management team, the roleholder will be included in an 'Out of Hours Rota' which means that they will be contactable in the event of a major incident outside of office hours.

- The ability to provide comprehensive professional advice and support within the service specialism, including tackling difficult problems of a technical, professional, resource or people related nature.
- Excellent communication skills with ability to influence actions by others and negotiate effective business solutions.
- Effective people management and performance management skills and the ability to provide direction and support to individuals and teams.
- Ability to set timescales and review effectiveness of service delivery.
- Ability to challenge existing practices and identify innovative solutions within the required framework.
**Qualifications and/or experience**:
- Relevant chartered/incorporated status of a professional body Institution of Civil Engineers (CEng/IEng status) or equivalent high-level experience of involved practices.
- Full current driver's licence.
- Demonstrable experience of delivering or co-ordinating a quality customer focused highway maintenance or traffic engineering service to others.
- Thorough understanding of local government and other agency functions, for example, public utilities, Environment Agency, Highways Agency, police, Borough / District / Parish / Town councils.
- Significant post qualification experience in dealing with complex and diverse issues.
- Experience of managing / leading staff.
- Experience of managing a small budget and/or contributing to financially related decisions on larger spends.
- Authoritative, applied knowledge of the specialist or professional discipline
including technical theories and related principles, practices and procedures.
- Sound and accurate IT knowledge e.g. Microsoft Office.
