Supporting the Financial Controller, the Financial Accountant will be responsible for the accounting, tax, financial reporting, performance and working capital management for Bestway Wholesale and Operations. These compromise of 60+ Wholesale Depots and150+ stores and ensuring that financial information (P&L focussed) is prepared and delivered in a robust, timely and consistent basis during a period of change.

**Your main responsibilities**:

- Sharing responsibility for the day to day financial and management accounting, reporting system, general ledger and bookkeeping maintenance, adherence to financial policies and procedures and compliance with statutory regulations
- Ensure P&L items such as sales, purchases, margin are recorded and calculated accurately
- Review systems, processes, and controls in the corporate stores functions and to document, recommend and implement changes from start to finish, incorporating the full end to end process
- Understand the flow of transactions from start to finish and understand system deficiencies and recommend action steps to improve the governance and control environment going forward
- Understand the design, implementation, and operating effectiveness of controls within the business leading to a strong control environment
- Understand how stock is calculated/valued to maintain accuracy and completion
- Understand how margin (Gross/Net) is calculated, considering Retros /VAT and maintain accuracy going forward
- Understand how stock and margin is inputted into the multiple systems and spreadsheets used within the business, as well as how it is reconciled between all the different sources from EPOS tilling to ERP
- Assist with balance sheet reconciliations and to ensure any unreconciled items are being dealt with and actioned appropriately
- Development of existing practices and introducing new and improved ways of working
- Undertake key projects as and when required by the business

- A fully qualified accountant is essential for this role
- Team player with proactive positive attitude
- Excellent communication skills
- A systematic approach and a good eye for detail
- Able to use initiative and question the detail whilst managing multiple tasks
- Ability to make judgements on need for consultation and escalation
- Competent with Microsoft Office products, particularly Excel
- Exceptional analytical skills
- Experience of undertaking month end tasks
- A working knowledge of VAT rules
- Able to establish and maintain internal and external relationships at all levels
