**We are launching our 2-year Gas Network Apprenticeship programme and are looking for a diverse range of people to join our highly skilled Operations teams. This learning journey will provide you with the skills, knowledge, and behaviours to developyour career and work with highly skilled teams in safely delivering a gas supply to 5.9 million homes and businesses in the south of England and across Scotland.**

**The role**

You will be supporting our engineers on site and learning from them every day when carrying out gas service and mains repair activities. The physical aspect of this job involves excavating/digging in the public/private highways laying and repairing gas pipes,so you will be working in a variety of outdoor environments safely and as part of a team.

The key parts of the role include:

- Excavating sites for gas network work
- Carrying out repair and replacement activities to our gas network infrastructure
- Disconnecting and removing gas meters from gas services, leaving it safe
- Responding to gas related emergency situations
- Restoring gas supplies
- Checking and maintaining tools and equipment before and after use in gas network infrastructure work
- Delivering great customer communications
- Challenging any unsafe behaviours

**The Apprentice journey**

Working with one of our academic partners, you will attend college on a 'block’ release basis throughout your 2 years, building your skills and knowledge as you progress. This Apprenticeship involves the completion of the 'Gas Network Operative’ Apprenticeship(ST0204). You will also be supported by our highly skilled engineers and managers, who will provide opportunity for you to develop your competencies in real work situations, supplementing your college learning. Over the course of the apprenticeship, you willbe required to attend a number of training centres, which may be a distance away from your home. When you are required to stay away from home, we will arrange travel and accommodation.

**What you’ll need**
- An interest in developing your career within the gas network industry
- Commitment to 2 years of training and education
- A can-do attitude and a passion for growing a successful career
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Full and valid driving license*
- *To carry out this role and participate fully in the development programme, we would prefer that you are able to drive. If you cannot drive currently, you will be expected to pass your test within 6 - 12 months of joining us_
