Senior Legal Counsel: Card Services Business

The role is based either in the PayPoint head office in Welwyn Garden City or the Handepay Ltd and Merchant Rentals Limited office in Haydock.

**MAIN PURPOSE OF ROLE**
- Advising on all legal and regulatory issues (including FCA Consumer Hire requirements, GDPR and data protection) relating to the businesses and products of Handepay Ltd and Merchant Rentals Limited (FCA regulated subsidiaries of PayPoint Plc).
- Drafting and negotiating contracts to support the regulated and non-regulated businesses of these companies.
- Support to other PayPoint Group businesses as required.

**MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Attending Board and committee meetings as required and reporting to relevant Boards and senior stakeholders on legal matters,
- Researching and analysing documents, legislation, case law and regulatory requirements to ensure the accuracy of advice and procedures.
- Overseeing the implementation of services and projects to identify legal issues.
- Horizon scanning and reviewing changes and developments in the law and relevant regulations and assessing their impact on the business.
- Input into regulatory consultations relevant to cards services businesses.
- Collaboration with other members of Legal and Compliance Teams to support One Team approach.

**QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS**

**Essential**
- Solicitor qualified in England and Wales. The role would suit a lawyer of at least 4 years post qualification experience, although other applicants will also be considered.
- Strong experience of drafting contracts and providing written and verbal legal advice on commercial and regulatory legal matters.
- Experience of working in a FCA regulated business with strong understanding of regulatory principles and themes.
- Experience of advising on FCA regulatory matters.
- Experience of GDPR, data protection and data security issues.
- Highly effective negotiating skills and an attention to detail.

**Highly desirable**
- Experience of advising on consumer hire/ credit.
- Prior inhouse experience.
- Experience of regulation in payment services, and e-money is useful but not essential.

- Positive, highly motivated and with the ability to manage own workload with minimal supervision.
- Takes personal responsibility for getting the job done, hands on and willing to roll sleeves up to support relevant businesses and other members of the Legal and Compliance Teams.
- Excellent time management skills, attention to detail and ability to manage a high volume of work.
- Ability to manage different stakeholders and understand business needs whilst ensuring legal and regulatory requirements are met.
- Possess effective influencing skills and a good commercial acumen.
- Ability to learn quickly and turn around work in an efficient and pragmatic manner.
- Proactive, highly motivated and organised with a good team-working ethic.
- Effective planning and project management skills.
- Good interpersonal skills with the ability to work closely with and advise various internal clients at differing levels of seniority.
- Willingness to travel approximately once a month to Haydock if located in Welwyn Garden City and vice versa.
