Job Summary
GKN Aerospace Filton specialises in the design and manufacture of large complex structural wing assemblies, detailed metallic components and wing systems for a combination of both civil and military aircraft. As a Fitter, you will operate as a multi-skilled, flexible worker to ensure maximum effectiveness and efficiency. You will have a wide knowledge of hand and machine tools used in the aircraft industry including:
- Percussion riveting
- Drill/Ream/Countersink in panels with Vanmar tools
- Setting structures in build jigs
- Deburring of structures
- Fettling using approved setting tools
- Treatment touch-up in localised areas on aluminium
- Use of CNC pillar drills (DONAU)
- Part Marking + Identifying
How You'll Contribute
**In this role, you will**:
1. Ensure parts are produced on a ‘right first time’ basis
2. Ensure that any calibrated equipment used is within date
3. Be responsible for the timely clearance of work phases using the SAP system
4. Be responsible for highlighting any non-conformance to the Process Team Leader
5. Adhere to the requirements of the GKNAF Quality Procedures and Health & Safety requirements as well as Export Control Requirements
8. Adhere to the site ‘Technology Control Plan (TCP)’, guaranteeing compliance with Export Control Regulations, controls, training and systems
9. Comply with all risk assessments and company Environment, Health & Safety Procedures relevant to
all work activities
10. Report all incidents, accidents and near misses as per the company’s procedure and
implementation of identified corrective actions
11. Maintain good standards of housekeeping in designated work area(s)

Essential
Must have a recognised indentured apprenticeship
Flexability to work different shifts
Desirable
Ideally have previous manufacturing experience in an aircraft production environment
Specific Functional Capability, Knowledge and Skills Required
Essential
Export Control understanding and regulatory requirements
Ability to work to standard operating procedures
Must be able to work in small teams with Team Leader
Self-motivated team player with good communication skills
