**Job Summary**:IC Publications is seeking a dynamic and experienced **Deputy Editor** to join our award-winning, pan-African media and communications group. This position will play a crucial role to enhance decision-making, improve business performance, and support organizational efficiency. You will have the opportunity to work in an energetic, entrepreneurial, and multicultural organisation that values creativity, adaptability, and professionalism.
**Responsibilities**:
- Our deputy editor will feel at home writing about **technology** **in** **Lagos**, **banking** **in** **Nairobi** and **shipping** **in** **Mozambique**. An impeccable writing style, attention to detail, and an ability to meet tight deadlines are absolutely essential.
- The deputy editor will regularly land exclusive interviews with business leaders and senior politicians and will be passionate about Africa and full of ideas for how to improve our coverage of the continent and its vibrant corporate sector.
- They must have a can-do attitude and a willingness to pull out all the stops to support a small team.
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams to support organizational goals and develop innovative solutions and products that address client needs
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including clients, industry leaders, and influencers, to promote IC Publications' services and enhance brand visibility.
- Participate in industry events, conferences, and networking activities to represent IC Publications and expand professional networks.
- Mentor and guide junior members of the team, fostering a culture of collaboration, learning, and achievement.
- Perform other related duties as required.
**Skills, aptitudes, attitudes and abilities**:
- At least five years' experience as a journalist
- Demonstrable interest in Africa’s business sector
- Knowledge of Africa’s political environment and key personalities
- Impeccable writing and editing skills and attention to detail
- Ability to meet tight deadlines
- Strong digital and social media skills, including familiarity with WordPress and SEO
- Educated to degree level at minimum
- Excellent command of spoken and written English. Additional languages encouraged
- Creative self-starter who is comfortable working in collaboration
- A can-do attitude and willingness to put in extra hours in a small team
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with team members and external stakeholders
- An interest in moderating panels and conference events
- Strong analytic thinking and a capacity to understand a variety of concepts. Common sense and pragmatism are a must, as well as the ability to problem solve and communicate effectively and concisely.
- Energetic and driven, someone who enjoys the challenge of bringing a practical solution to problems and bring simplicity to what may look like convoluted or complex problems.
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal
- Proficient is Microsoft office and Google. Some physical demands are necessary, such as walking, sitting or standing and lifting.
- Travel required as agreed upon with the supervisors.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and build relationships with diverse stakeholders.
- Self-started with excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a strategic mindset and the capacity to identify new business opportunities.
- Be able to work independently and also as part of a team and meet tight deadlines
- Foster a collaborative and high-performance work environment, mentoring a team members.
- Passion for Africa and a genuine interest in contributing to its development through the power of media and communications.
**Qualifications and Experience**:
- Educated to degree level at minimum
- Proven experience as senior reporter or editor within the media and communications industry, preferably in Africa.
