**Deputy travel editor, 12 Month FTC**
The Times and The Sunday Times are seeking a deputy editor (maternity cover) for the Travel department.
Working alongside the travel editor, they must be capable of managing and galvanising a small but talented team and be adept at juggling multiple content streams working to strict deadlines.
**Responsibilities**
- Work with editors, writers and engagement and SEO specialists in the Travel department of The Times and The Sunday Times to commission distinctive and engaging content
- Work with production colleagues in design, pictures and sub-editing to produce travel supplements as efficiently as possible, meeting deadlines
- Commission and edit digital packages that increase engagement and support subscriber growth
- Support the travel editor in managing individuals in the Travel department and developing their skill sets
- Deputise for the travel editor in marketing, commercial and new business ventures
- Support the travel editor to manage strict budgets
**Skills and experience**
- Considerable experience working as a commissioning editor and writer on a national newspaper or magazine
- Strong digital awareness and skills
- Good understanding of SEO and how to tailor content to multiple audiences
- Able to use social media platforms to engage current and new audiences
- Persuasive presentation skills, well-developed interpersonal skills, with the ability to problem-solve and negotiate positive outcomes
- Able to communicate succinctly and effectively
- Experience working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams
- A strong understanding of editorial compliance and regulatory issues
