**Job description**:
- This role will be in the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT).
- The Financial Controls and Assurance team are within the DSIT Finance directorate. The work of the team is focussed on providing support and advice to management on issues that affect good governance. There are various ways in which we plan to achieve this including improving communication and education around what controls and assurance means. We lead on corporate policies such as expenses and financial delegations.
- We engage business groups and corporate service leads to identify how we can strengthen assurance within the department,including by developing new management information and tools to help senior leaders assess performance. We also work with the Government Internal Audit Agency to identify and test any potential areas of weakness.**Person specification**:
- Managing internal and external stakeholders.
- Managing service delivery and monitor continuation of service.
- Assisting with reviews for non-compliance and monitoring performance.
- Ensuring that financial procedures are fully documented and guidance kept up to date.
- Managing team inboxes including responding, prioritising, and escalating queries as appropriate.
- Supporting completion of Freedom of Information (FOI) and Parliamentary Questions (PQ) requests.
- Monitoring of Government Internal Audit Agency (GIAA) actions, working with GIAA and action owners to ensure they are delivered.
- Recording updates to the department’s financial delegations.
- Completion of other adhoc tasks as directed.
**Skills and Experience**
- Excellent organisation and prioritisation skills, including awareness of when to escalate.
- Internal and external stakeholder management skills.
- Team player including collaboration and also pro-activeness to work independently.
- Effective decision making, using personal judgement and a range of sources to make a decision or create recommendations.
- Proficient in MS Office including Word and Excel (comfortable working with large data sets)
- Working towards an accounting or internal audit qualification (e.g. AAT, CIA, CCAB) or relevant experience working in a Finance, Audit or Assurance team would be advantageous.
