**Summary**:

- Building a strong Commercial Function in Government, and with it the right commercial capability, is at the heart of a far-reaching programme of Civil Service reform.
- We are building a cadre of commercial talent in all Government departments; people who can manage our commercial portfolios, who can lead our most complex and novel programmes and projects, people who have the gravitas and depth of experience to work alongside our policy and operational leaders to develop innovative commercial arrangements, whether through joint ventures, outsourcing or best-in-class contracts.- We have already made significant progress through the establishment of the Government Commercial Organisation (GCO), our single employer of senior commercial talent across government. This role will sit within the GCO, but based in our BEIS commercial team delivering departmental objectives.**Job description**:

- The Commercial Capability and Assurance Team is the enabling function for the Commercial team at BEIS, providing the materials, tools, processes, and Systems to support Commercial Delivery, improve efficiency and mitigate risk.-
**Responsibilities**:

- Lead commercial capability within the department by ensuring that BEIS have the right level of capability across the contract lifecycle through the promotion and management of government training and development programmes, such as the Contract Management Capability Programme (CMCP);
- Lead and manage various continuous improvement projects to further develop the commercial capabilities of BEIS, this may include best practice forums, developing our commercial hub and guidance platform and establishing a quality review process;
- Working collaboratively with colleagues in commercial, finance, project delivery, legal and a team of corporate finance and investor relations to improve commercial capabilities;
- Leading Savings across the BEIS delivery teams;
- Working closely with BEIS Partner Organisations;
- Promoting collaboration and sharing of best practices across the BEIS family and GCO;
- Contributing to the development and implementation of a consistent service offering across BEIS core department;
- Line management responsibility for one (SEO) member of staff, supporting and developing professional capabilities;
- A key member of the Commercial team. Play an active role in supporting the team, embedding its vision and values to create a supportive working environment for all.

**Technical skills**:

- **Strategy and Policy Development** -The ability to write policy / guidelines that work in 'real-life', which are subsequently effectively rolled out to ensure compliance.
