**Early Careers Advisor (Graduate Programme)**

**Location**: Rutherford Appleton Laboratory (RAL) or Daresbury Laboratory (DL) with regular travel to other STFC sites

**Job Purpose**
- To support delivery of the Graduate and Student development schemes across STFC; providing support and guidance to managers, supervisors, graduates and students
- To support attraction and recruitment activities across the schemes, building effective relationships with the Early Careers resourcing team and relevant universities and HEIs.

**Key Accountabilities**
- Effective and timely operational coordination and administration of STFC Graduate and Student Schemes to agreed standards of quality
- Effective representation of the schemes to potential recruits and partner organisations
- Provision of effective pastoral and developmental interventions

**Role Responsibilities**
- Provide pro-active and responsive advice, guidance and support to managers and supervisors
- Provide pro-active and responsive advice, guidance and support to graduates and students across STFC
- Continually develop and improve an effective approach to the provision of pastoral support, ensuring high levels of engagement with, and retention on each programme
- Work with the Early Careers recruitment team to implement an attraction strategy with targeted universities, departments and careers advisors as required.
- Work with managers to increase the take up of sponsorship opportunities, increasing conversion rates from Industrial Placement students to Graduate hires
- Plan and deliver “keep in touch” activities, including presentations, for new recruits ahead of their start date
- Plan and deliver induction programmes, including presentations, for Graduates and Students
- Work with the Head of Graduate Programmes and L&D colleagues to plan, continually improve and implement the Graduate and Student development programmes, ensuring that training and development is of a consistently high quality and supports the progression of the Graduates towards Chartered status/professional accreditation as appropriate
- Plan, coordinate and attend the RAL annual outward-bound week for Graduates
- Be an active member of, and Chair where appropriate, relevant committee/panel meetings
- Act as an ambassador for STFC’s Graduate and Student schemes, internally and externally, ensuring that STFC continues to have a strong public profile for graduates and students
- Provide support as required across STFC relating to the core responsibilities of the role
- All other relevant and aligned duties relating to the core responsibilities of the role.

**Qualifications**

Essential
- Degree level qualification or an equivalent level of experience

Desirable
- HR or L&D related qualifications
- Psychometric testing qualifications

**Knowledge and exeperience**

Essential
- Experience of co-ordinating graduate development programmes or similar within a large and complex organisation
- Experience of designing and/or delivering learning and development interventions and/or events
- Proven ability in managing/supporting graduates/students and/or those early in their career
- Proven ability to develop strong, collaborative relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders
- Highly developed administration skills
- Highly developed oral, written and presentation skills including an ability to influence and negotiate effectively

Desirable
- Knowledge, experience and understanding of early careers recruitment methodology and practices
- Knowledge, experience and skills related to working in a highly technical science and engineering environment

**Personal Skills and Qualities**

Essential
- Strong ability to think creatively, to seek and accept change and continuous improvement.
- High level of organsiation and a focus on the achievement of goals.
- Able to cope with fluctuating workload, changing priorities and to meet deadlines
- High levels of attention to detail and strong skills in Microsoft Office
- Good inter-personal skills, particularly in communication and contribution to team motivation
- Takes an agile approch to solving problems and is solutions focussed
- Self-identification with the organisation. The reflection of STFC values in attitudes.

Desirable
- Ability to plan and manage budgets under the guidance and supervision of more senior or specialist staff.

**Commitment**

This role will require travel to other STFC and UKRI sites within the UK, and to university career fairs etc. Occasional unsocial hours may need to be worked to engage with students/universities and to facilitate an outward bound week or other key events.
