**The Opportunity**:
A new and exciting opportunity has arisen for a Group Leader to join EDF Energy. The opportunity is within the Electrical Branch of the PWR Technology function, which resides within EDF Energy’s newly formed Technical Client Organisation business unit. The Technical Client Organisation brings together UK technical capabilities from across the existing EDF Energy businesses to support Hinkley Point C & Sizewell C nuclear new build projects and the Nuclear Generation business.

The Group Leader will report to the Electrical Branch Manager and is responsible for managing as a first line leader a team of engineers. The team is responsible for ensuring that the requirements relating to nuclear and conventional safety are defined and adequately addressed within the design, and that the design integrity is maintained throughout the lifecycle (i.e. from design to as-built operating plant). This is achieved by undertaking the Design Authority and Intelligent Customer activities associated with the team’s scope. The responsibilities include interfacing with the designers and project management teams and managing the regulators (internally & externally).

Sitting in the PWRT Electrical Branch and reporting to the Electrical Branch Manager, the Group Leader will lead a team of engineers with a scope of work covering cable design and routing, cable containment design, earthing, lightning protection, marshalling, cabinets and boxes, small power and lighting systems, fire and hydrogen detection, plus the layout and installation of all electrical equipment.

**The Role**:
The Group Leader is responsible for:

- Delivering of the team’s objectives with safety as overriding priority, to quality, schedule and budget
- People management and development, business planning, risk and financial management.
- Maintaining trained and motivated team members
- Continually driving innovation and simplification
- Providing client accepted engineering design deliverables/design packages to the programme teams, in preparation for site construction
- Ensuring design integrity is intact throughout the procurement, manufacture, construction, and commissioning cycle; from design to as-built operating plant
- Providing nuclear safety acceptance of the design, based on a graded approach, scrutinising design deliverables and modifications, according to their nuclear safety significance
- Ensuring that the requirements relating to nuclear safety for SSCs are defined and adequately addressed within the design
- Assisting in resolving technical issues and managing technical risk
- Ensuring that UK regulation requirements for the design are met

Accountabilities
- Ensure the team’s safety, health and mental well being.
- Lead and manage the team to ensure their performance is in line with the TCO objectives and the individual’s personal objectives.
- Ensure the team receive the appropriate training to deliver high quality work effectively.
- Plan and manage the day to day activity of the team ensuring progress against team and functional objectives
- Developing people and the team through coaching, personal development planning, skills assessment and appropriate training to deliver high quality work effectively.
- Support the effective integration of the cultural differences across the organisation and the project it supports.
- Manage an identified budget escalating any variance.
- Manage group and individual performance; holding team members accountable, role model expected behaviours, and using business planning and work management systems.
- Provide oversight to deliver quality work and ensure the technical competency of the team.
- Provide support to the team to resolve any issues; manage workload, risks, issues, emergent work and change on a day to day basis.
- Identify and define and alternative courses of action, working with the team to generate solutions (e.g. new processes, methods, procedures).
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with internal/ external stakeholders to ensure effective collaboration and decision making, building confidence in the team’s ability to deliver
- Manage interfaces with internal and external regulators
- Lead and support TCO development activities
- Support and deputise for Branch Manager

**The Skills**:

- Degree or equivalent in an electrical engineering discipline
- Chartered engineer status would be desirable
- Experience in technical oversight of one or more of; design, specification, procurement, manufacture, qualification, installation, commissioning, and operation of electrical equipment
- Knowledge and experience of electrical engineering or electrical system design
- Working knowledge and understanding of safety cases
- Knowledge and experience of technical risk identification, manag
