Junior Led in Emergency Medicine

Applicants will join a full multidisciplinary medical team covering the Wythenshawe Hospital Emergency Department and co-located Urgent Treatment Centre. There will also be an opportunity for work to be undertaken at the Trafford General Hospital Urgent Treatment Centre, depending on mutual agreement following a successful interview.

Successful applicants will have similar opportunities to our emergency medicine trainees including a dedicated educational supervisor, work-place-based assessments for portfolio, access to training including in house simulation, audit, delivery of medical student teaching, journal club, POCUS training, virtual case discussion and learning. We are a department with ongoing research activity and research opportunities with excellent academic leadership.

The job entails being part of a 24-hour rota, covering, days, nights, and weekends. You will be expected to assess patients, make primary diagnosis, and initiate emergency treatment. The Emergency Medicine Consultant body provide senior clinical oversight from 08:00 to midnight, 7 days per week.

The workload will involve seeing minor injuries, ambulatory patients, major, resus and trauma cases and covering our Clinical Decision Unit. Our department is a busy inner-city institution and provides cover for a diverse population with specific medical and social needs providing an interesting and varied case mix.

Primarily, duties will be to provide, safe, effective, and timely care to the patients presenting to and under the continuing care of the Emergency Department. You will be expected to act according to GMC guidance on good medical practice and adhere to Trust policies on infection control, sickness reporting, risk management etc.
