Scarborough, United Kingdom North Yorkshire Council Full time

**Salary: £37,035 to £39,513 per annum pro rata**

**Contract Type: Permanent**

**Vacancy Hours: Full time, Term Time Only + 1 week (Monday to Friday 08:00 to 17:00)**

**Location: Braeburn Primary and Nursery Academy, Scarborough**

As a senior member of the school’s leadership team, you will hold a pivotal role, leading all safeguarding and child protection efforts within the school. Your primary responsibility will be to cultivate and sustain an effective safeguarding culture, ensuring that all staff are equipped to handle child protection concerns. Empowered with the necessary time, funding, training, and resources, you will have the authority to allocate resources, support, and guide staff to safeguard the welfare of all children. Your role will involve being the first point of contact for any child protection issues, making timely referrals, and coordinating multi-agency support for vulnerable children and families. You will also conduct early help assessments and deliver interventions to ensure children's safety and welfare, while also managing complex cases across a network of schools as directed by the Trust safeguarding lead. Additionally, you will lead efforts to address attendance barriers, particularly for persistently absent students, through strategic planning and targeted interventions. Your overarching mission will be to ensure the safety, welfare, and educational engagement of all children and families within the school community.

In your role, you will champion a culture of high aspirations for all pupils, particularly those who are currently or have previously been affected by welfare, safeguarding, and child protection issues. You will empower staff to recognize the unique challenges these pupils face, ensuring they receive the necessary academic support and targeted interventions to thrive. Collaborating closely with the school’s attendance lead and educational welfare, you will actively participate in persistent absence panels and work to improve attendance rates among vulnerable students. You will monitor the academic progress of these pupils, contributing to individual progress reviews and sharing insights from external agencies and professionals involved with the pupil and their family. Additionally, you will play a crucial role in shaping the curriculum to teach key safety themes, such as online safety and anti-bullying, while capturing and acting on Pupil Voice regarding safety at school. By working with the attendance lead, you will also focus on understanding and addressing the needs of children with chronic absenteeism, ensuring that specific interventions are in place to support their home life and morning routines, ultimately fostering a safer and more supportive school environment.
