**Post Title**:Additional Needs Teaching Assistant
**Location**:St Giles Spencer Academy
**Salary/Pay Range**:NJC 10 - NJC 14
**Hours of work**:37 hours per week
**Reporting to**:Phase Lead
**Purpose of Role**
To work with Teachers as part of a professional team to support specialised teaching and learning for SEN pupils.
**Main Duties and Responsibilities**
▪ To promote and actively support the values of the school.
▪ To provide learning activities for individuals and groups of pupils under the professional directions and supervision of a qualified Teacher, differentiating and adapting learning programmes to suit the needs of allocated pupils with SEN, modifying and adapting activities as necessary.
▪ Plan and evaluate learning activities with the Teacher, writing reports and records, as required.
▪ Work with pupils on therapy or care programmes, designed and supervised by a
Therapist/Care Professional.
▪ Monitor, assess, record and report on development, progress and attainment, as agreed with the Teacher, drawing any problems which cannot be resolved to the attention of the
Teacher.
▪ Select and adapt appropriate resources/methods to facilitate agreed learning activities.
▪ Be involved in planning, organising and implementing individual development plans for pupils (such as Individual Educational Plans (IEP’s)), including attendance at, and contribution to, reviews.
▪ Attend to pupils’ personal needs including toileting, hygiene, dressing and eating, as well as help with social, welfare and health matters.
▪ To physically assist pupils in activities, where required (which may involve lifting, where mobility is an issue).

▪ Induct pupils into specialist units, classes or schools for pupils with special educational needs, as appropriate.
▪ Support the development of other support staff.
▪ As a team member, supervise pre-prepared activities during short-term teacher absence.
▪ Provide support to pupils with severe learning and behavioural, communication, social, sensory or physical difficulties.
▪ Monitor pupils conduct and behaviour and intervene to avoid difficult and challenging issues arising.
▪ Establish and maintain relationship with relevant professionals to support pupils’ learning
(i.e. Speech Therapist, Physiotherapist).
▪ Contribute to Individual Development Plans for pupils attending reviews, as required.
▪ Support the role of Parents/Carers contributing to meetings, as required.
▪ To work across both sites, where required (St Giles School - Main Site and St Giles School
- The Hive)
▪ To undertake any other reasonable duties as directed by the Executive Headteacher and / or Senior Leader.

**Essential Desirable**
**Qualifications and experience**
▪ Experience of supporting pupils with special - educational needs.
▪ Recent experience of working with ASD pupils in either
EYFS, KS1 or KS2.
- ▪ To have had training or experience of working with
- pupils who require behaviour or communication needs.
▪ NVQ Level 3 Qualification, or equivalent.▪ To have attended relevant courses / training in the last3 years in relation to ASD or other SEN areas.
▪ Experience of working in a special school.
▪ Experience of working with a range of staff as part of a - multi-disciplinary team.
- ▪ Additional qualification in ASD or speech, language and communication
- **Knowledge and skills**
- A knowledge and understanding of a range of teaching - styles.
- An understanding of the important of enhancing - pupils’ self-esteem.
- An understanding of assessment procedures and - practices.
- An awareness of policies and procedures relating to
- child protection, health and safety, equal opportunities and confidentiality.
- A creative approach to working with children.- Take responsibility, with minimum supervision, for
- delivering work.
