**Reference**: **APR20255710** - Expiry date: - 09:46, Fri, 9th May 2025 - Location: - Liverpool - Salary: - £39,355.00 - £45,413.00 Per Annum - Benefits: - 30 days holiday + Christmas closure - Duration: - Fixed-term, full-time appointment until December 2026 LSTM is seeking a Post-Doctoral Research Associate to join a dynamic, interdisciplinary team working on the Urban TRACS: Transformative Research for Adaptation to Climate Change in Informal Settlements project. This exciting role will support participatory research across Kenya and Sierra Leone, focused on empowering poor and marginalised urban communities to adapt to climate change. You will work collaboratively with international partners and community-based organisations to design, conduct, and disseminate high-quality qualitative, quantitative, and participatory research, helping to strengthen inclusive and equitable climate resilience. The post-holder will lead and support various components of the project, including co-designing interventions, contributing to theory and evidence-based recommendations, and mentoring master’s students. You will play a key role in monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL), developing new funding proposals, and communicating findings through diverse formats including blogs, policy briefs, and conference presentations. **Key responsibilities will include**: **Research Design & Implementation** - Conduct and support high-quality reviews of literature related to climate change, health, adaptation, and informal settlements - Input to design and conduct of primary research and co-designed interventions - Lead monitoring, evaluation and learning activities of the project - Participate in site visits and annual programme meetings **Collaborative Participatory Research** - Lead development of participatory research with partners in Kenya, Sierra Leone, and beyond - Synthesise cross-country findings and contribute to evidence-based recommendations - Manage ethical approval processes, data handling, and funder reporting requirements **Research Communication** - Lead and support the development of reports, peer-reviewed publications, and policy briefs - Communicate research through conference presentations and webinars - Write small-scale literature reviews to support dissemination **Research Development** - Identify funding opportunities and develop new research proposals in collaboration with project partners **Supervision & Mentorship** - Act as secondary supervisor for Masters’ student dissertations on climate change and urban health **Communications & Representation** - Create engaging content for online platforms including blogs and webinars - Represent Urban TRACS in national and international forums - Understanding of health issues and multi-sectoral health promotion in LMICs - Strong grasp of climate change impacts and social determinants of health in LMICs - Training in qualitative research methods, including participatory approaches - Experience conducting research in sub-Saharan Africa and/or South-central Asia - Track record of applied health, climate, or complex intervention research in LMICs - Experience designing and implementing mixed-methods and participatory projects - Proven skills in data analysis, research dissemination, and stakeholder engagement - Excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills - Commitment to equity, inclusion, and ethical research practices - Willingness to travel nationally and internationally as required **In Return We Offer**: - 30 days of annual leave, plus bank holidays and additional Christmas closure days - Generous occupational pension schemes - Government-backed "cycle to work" scheme - Discounted staff membership to the University of Liverpool Sports Centre - A range of additional family-friendly policies **Application Process**: **Inclusion is Central to Our Values at LSTM** **About LSTM** Founded in 1898 and the oldest of its kind in the world, the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) is an internationally recognised centre of excellence for teaching and research in tropical diseases.
