**Junior Technical Assistant - Planet Doughnut**

**Location**: Planet Doughnut Bakery, Shrewsbury, SY1 3AB

**Hours**: Full-time, Monday to Friday (40 hours per week, flexible working hours available)

**Salary**: 23,000 - 26,000, commensurate with experience and skills

**Reports to**: Managing Director

Planet Doughnut is an award-winning handmade doughnut manufacturer, passionate about producing high quality products using the finest ingredients. Producing over 10,000 doughnuts per shift, our delicious creations are enjoyed across the UK. Supplied to wholesalers, retailers, sports venues and theme parks, one of our doughnuts is consumed every 15 seconds

As our business continues to grow, we’re investing in our technical and development capability with the creation of a brand new junior technical role. This is a fantastic opportunity for a motivated individual to join our journey, working hands-on in our new development kitchen to support innovation and product quality from concept to launch.

**The Role**

This is an exciting and varied role that combines creativity, technical precision and a genuine love for great food. Working closely with the Managing Director and wider production team, you’ll help to bring new concepts to life - from idea generation and recipe development through to technical specifications, process mapping and quality documentation.

You’ll play an active part in our new product development (NPD) process, supporting trials, capturing data and ensuring every new product meets our high standards for taste, quality and consistency.

Over time, you’ll gain experience across all aspects of technical management, with a clear development path towards becoming Senior Technical Manager, helping lead Planet Doughnut to achieve BRC accreditation within the next 24 months.

**Key Responsibilities**
- Document product specifications, ingredient information and process flows.
- Maintain accurate technical files and support allergen and nutritional data collation.
- Assist in organising and running product trials and tastings.
- Monitor product quality, shelf-life and consistency through testing and observation.
- Work with production to translate kitchen trials into scalable, repeatable processes.
- Support the implementation of food safety and quality systems across the site.
- Maintain cleanliness and organisation within the development kitchen and test area.
- Contribute ideas and improvements to processes and product innovation.

**About You**

You’re a practical, detail-orientated individual with a passion for food and a curiosity about how great products are made. You’re comfortable getting hands-on in a kitchen environment, while also taking pride in accurate documentation and organisation.

You might be a food science graduate, someone with bakery or technical experience looking to step up, or simply a driven foodie who loves learning and wants to build a long-term career in the industry.

**Essential Skills & Experience**
- A genuine passion for food, creativity and product development.
- Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
- Good written and computer skills (spreadsheets, Word, data entry).
- Understanding of basic food safety and hygiene principles.
- Proactive attitude with willingness to learn and take initiative.
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a small, collaborative team.

**Desirable (But not essential)**
- Experience or study in food science, bakery, NPD or technical roles.
- Knowledge of HACCP, QMS or food industry standards.

**Working Hours**
- Full time, Monday to Friday. No weekends.
- 40 hours per week, with flexibility around start and finish times.
- Based in our brand new development kitchen at Planet Doughnut’s head office and bakery site in Battlefield, Shrewsbury.
