Senior Finance Officer

**Salary: Grade E**

**Hours: 37 hours per week, 52 weeks per annum**

**Responsible to: Trust Finance Manager**

We are seeking an outstanding individual to provide effective and efficient financial support service as a Senior Finance Officer, dealing with all matters in a confidential and professional manner. Key duties include:
**We are seeking a professional individual who**:

- 5 GCSEs at grades 9 to 4 (A* to C) (or equivalent) including in Maths and English
- AAT / Part qualified, or qualified by experience with a willingness to study
- Experience of working with spreadsheets
- Experience of utilising a computerised financial system
- Strong organisational skills
- Understanding of financial processes and procedures, and of basic financial policies and accounting code structures
- Ability to identify errors in financial records and to escalate where appropriate
- High level of IT competence and knowledge of Microsoft Office (e.g. Excel, Word etc)
- Excellent numeracy skills

**Key Roles**
- To act as the lead finance team member at Thornden School whilst the Finance Business Partner is away at other schools within the trust (2 to 3 days per week). To be proactive in dealing with queries raised and finding resolutions for complex queries.
- To line manage the finance assistant on a day to day basis. To be responsible for all of Thornden School’s bank transactions, to include; payment runs, posting online income from Arbor using import templates, posting income from DfE to agreed codes, direct debit postings.
- To be responsible for Thornden School’s purchase ledger, to include; gaining approval for invoices, inputting invoices, investigating uninvoiced purchase orders, processing payment runs to suppliers and to staff for expenses.
- To be responsible for supplier management, particularly around new suppliers and checking their employment status (i.e. Self Employed/IR35) and verifying bank details.
- To be responsible for Thornden School trips and manage the Finance Assistant with regards to trips. To include; budgeting for trip with trip leader, regularly balancing trips between Arbor and PSF to ensure all income accounted for, management of all refunds and changes through Arbor.
- To be an Arbor champion within the school. Understanding how Arbor works for Finance around trips, the school shop and clubs (in particular music) and being the point of contact for school staff for queries and training/guidance.
- Monitoring school budgets on a monthly basis and raising current or future issues with the Finance Business Partner.
- Raising orders onto the Trust accounting system for goods and services as where necessary in the absence of the Finance Assistant, such as during holiday periods.
- To maintain good and organised records to support audit processes
- To contribute to the preparation of the final accounts and statutory financial statements and other financial analysis as required, in line with agreed deadlines
- Working with the Finance Business Partner on month end and year end processes
- To support the Central and Teaching Hub finance teams with processes and processing where necessary.
