**Job description**:

- To develop and promote the UK Government’s Space strategy and broader policy goals internationally in line with the National Space Strategy.
- To ensure that international engagement aligns with HMG priorities for international space collaboration, working closely with FCDO, MOD and DIT and other interested Departments such as Defra.
- To oversee the setting of a framework for UKSA to collaborate with international partners and work with UKSA on representation at international events.

**Responsibilities**:
Team leadership:

- To lead a team, oversee multiple priorities and build high performance, capability and resilience.
- To ensure that there is a clear vision and clear roles and responsibilities for the team.
- To oversee delivery of all international policy activities within the team.

Develop and deliver the International Strategy including:

- Work closely with OGDs and UKSA to build on the priorities of the National Space Strategy.
- Define new international programmes to deliver bilateral and multilateral programmes; and to maintain and grow relationships with key allies within and outside of Europe to align on policy or regulatory issues.
- Oversee the consolidation of key drivers for international engagement from BEIS and across government.
- Ensure that intelligence gathering, partnerships, and international investments support the delivery of the Space strategy.
- Ensure that international strategy and policy is aligned across BEIS and HMG.
- Oversee the UKSA framework for collaboration with partners in line with existing and prospective UK investments in Space.
- Work with FCDO, MOD and DIT to ensure space policy interests and UK ambitions are considered in both foreign and trade policy and vice versa (space policy aligns into the agenda and framework set by FCDO and DIT).
- Lead review of international fora together with UKSA and FCDO.
- Represent BEIS at international events, fora and bilaterals/multilateral where appropriate and agreed with the Deputy Director and the Director.

International agreements:

- Support the Directorate to secure international agreements and specifically the framework for ESA CMIN22 budget negotiations.
- Negotiate and collaborate with stakeholders and colleagues across HMG to agree European Space Agency (ESA) budgets and support clearance of new programmes and international investments in line with Ministerial direction.
- Work with UKSA teams to ensure that ESA programmes remain on track and flag risks where not delivering.
- Shape the Department’s policy position on collaboration with ESA informed by the National Space Strategy, wider Ministerial priorities and direction from the National Space Council.
