Dunster Castle is looking for a Collections & House Officer to ensure the preservation and presentation of our collections.

This is a full time, permanent role.

Accommodation is provided to the postholder for the proper or better performance of his or her duties in accordance with Trust criteria and HMRC rules. The attached annex ‘Staff Housing Duties’ gives further information.

What it's like to work here:Set on the edge of Exmoor, overlooking the Bristol Channel, Dunster Castle has been here for around a thousand years. These days this busy historic property welcomes around 200,000 people a year who come to enjoy its stunning setting and host of things to discover and do.

With its embattled skyline rising over the surrounding countryside, Dunster Castle appears as the archetypal English fortress. Within the Castle, there are some notably fine features - the nationally important 17th century plaster ceilings (Edward Goudge) and staircase (Edward Pearce the younger) being of particularly fine quality and the embossed leather hangings being especially rare. These sit comfortably with a large collection of mostly family portraits and a mixture of styles of furniture and fittings.

As the house team lead you will be responsible for the presentation of the show rooms and for the conservation of the collection and rooms, as well as for the monitoring of the building itself to ensure its best care and protection. Collection care and management is key to the house team’s function; you will support the completion of collection-based projects and the upkeep of the collection management system.
