CARETAKER
Aims and Objectives of the Charity
The Royal School for the Blind Charity, Liverpool runs both a School and Post 19 provision.
The School and Residential provision are judged to be Outstanding by Ofsted. The School offers educational placements for children with visual impairments and moderate to severe learning disabilities. Placements at the school are for both day and residential children. It is the aim of the School to provide the highest educational and care opportunities for all our children. The ages of the young people range from 2 - 19 years.
The Post 19 provision, Rushton Futures, offers education and social care placements for young adults with visual impairments and moderate to severe learning disabilities. It is the aim of Rushton Futures to support our service users prepare for adulthood, meeting the necessary outcomes identified for quality care.
As caretaker, you will be maintaining a site and liaising with contractors, undertaking minor repair and maintenance of buildings/grounds, unlocking, and locking up the buildings, health and safety checks, general porterage, and swimming pool maintenance.
You will have a flexible outlook and a personable manner and the ability to work as part of a team as well as independently. You should have a high standard of workmanship, a strong work ethic and ability to work proactively and with initiative. An understanding of health & safety with regards to this role is essential.
You will promote our vision and seek to maintain the reputation of RSB in all aspects of your work.

**Key Tasks**
1. To ensure a safe environment for the children and young adults on site under the leadership of the Premises Manager.
2. To carry out routine and preventative maintenance and minor repairs.
3. To be first response to reported defects.
4. To ensure safe systems of work in regard to Health & Safety.
5. To work in a flexible manner.
**Role of Caretaker**
- To work as a member of the premises team, ensuring a safe environment for children and young people, and young adults with visual impairment, complex needs.
- To deputise for the Premises Manager as and when required, including line management of staff as delegated.
- To carry out routine and preventative maintenance and minor repairs;
- To ensure safe systems of work in regard to Health & Safety.
- To maintain records accordingly, both hard copy and electronically.
- To undertake grounds duties;
- To supervise cleaning staff with evening duties;
- To be first response to reported defects;
- To work with initiative when dealing with reactive maintenance;
- To work in a proactive manner;
- To be systematic in your approach to work;
- Ability to prioritise work load and manage your time efficiently and effectively;
- To report any defects to the Premises Manager;
- To liaise with contractors working on site;
- To assist colleagues in the undertaking of multi-person or specialised tasks;
- To carry out work which might require working beyond normal working hours;
- To assist with removal of rubbish and litter from within the building and outside as required;
- To carry out, when necessary, outside cleaning, leaf clearance, litter and weeds from hard surfaces. Clear when necessary paths and steps of snow and ice, unblock drains, gullies, grids and gutters;
- To carry out cleaning, testing and maintenance of the swimming pool;
- To drive school vehicles, clean, re-fuel and maintain as necessary;
- To ensure the premises are secure and safe;
- To identify potential trips and hazards and act upon to make safe;
- To carry out duties at all times with high regard to health and safety;
- To work in a flexible manner;
- Willingness to learn and to undertake relevant training as required to perform duties
- To act as keyholder and emergency call out, alongside the team, as and when required.
Hours of work**:37 hours per week..
The post is full time 37 hours per week.
The hours of work are 11am to 7pm Mon to Thursday and 9am to 5pm on Friday (though some flexibility in relation to working pattern will be needed to meet the needs of
