Job description

**Role title: JCL Business Administrator**

Team/Directorate**:Judicial College Content Team**

**Overview of the Judicial Office**

The Judicial Office (JO) reports to, and is accountable, to the Lady Chief Justice (LCJ). It was established in 2006 to provide support to the LCJ and to the wider judiciary in upholding the rule of law and in delivering justice impartially, speedily and efficiently, following the Constitutional Reform Act 2005.

In addition, we support, and are accountable to, the Senior President of Tribunals, whose responsibilities extend to Scotland and Northern Ireland.

The JO is an interesting and unique place to work. Everything we do is in support of upholding the independence and impartiality of the judiciary. We work closely with HM Courts & Tribunals Service (HMCTS), the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) and others across Government as well as with the legal professions.

We are an Arm’s Length Body sponsored by the Ministry of Justice. This creates an interesting and complex environment in which to work where we agree our priorities with the senior judiciary and receive our funding to deliver them from the Ministry of Justice. The Judicial Office has been through a period of significant growth resulting from an expansion of our remit and responsibilities.

**Overview of the team**

The Judicial College is part of the Judicial Office a unique part of the Civil Service, independent from government and dedicated to supporting the judiciary and promoting and safeguarding judicial independence to maintain confidence in the rule of law. The College supports the Lady Chief Justice, Senior President of Tribunals and the Chief Coroner to fulfil their statutory responsibilities for training the judiciary in an evolving justice system. We support the judicial leadership of the College to set strategic direction and advise on the design and delivery of the training programme. We deliver around 1800 courses to around 25,000 office holders every year. We aim to be a world leader in judicial education.

For more information see:
Working with the College Board, the Judicial College supports these senior members of the judiciary in setting the direction for training and ensuring the College has the right support in place to provide advice on the design and delivery of training, innovative digital systems to support delivery and that seminars are well organised. Our purpose is to strengthen the rule of law and improve the administration of justice through delivery of essential training for the judiciary in courts and tribunals, as well as a framework of training for magistrates.

The Judicial College Learning Team plays an integral part in supporting the training programme and judicial office holder access to resources through our digital learning platform, Judicial College Learning (JCL) which is a Totara based platform. The team works closely with colleagues across the College, Digital Services and judicial stakeholders to ensure the system meets user needs, identify improvements, develop new functionality and make the best use of data held on the system. The team serves as the central coordination point for all matters related to the JCL, including content held on the platform, the governance around the system and its content, using feedback to make improvements and deal with any emerging issues relating to functionality, content and date.

In addition to the management of the digital platform, the JCL team plays a key role in coordinating and management of future developments to the system to meet business and user needs and new design principles. The team lead on project management, stakeholder engagement and change management. This includes developing and delivering guidance and training to both staff and the judiciary on how to use the system where changes are made. In managing content on the system and functionality, the team oversee the design, layout and content held on the system to ensure that users have the best possible experience, and that features, and content are accessible.

**Hybrid Working Requirement**

**Summary of the role**

As a Business Administrator, you will play a key role in ensuring the smooth operation of our digital learning environments. You will be responsible for managing content, supporting users, assisting and participating in the delivery of projects, and contributing to the ongoing development of our platform. This position offers an exciting blend of technical skills, creativity, and stakeholder management.
