**Overview**
The Judicial College supports the Lord Chief Justice, the Senior President of Tribunals and the Chief Coroner in their statutory obligations to make sure there are appropriate arrangements in place for the training of judicial office holders. The College is expanding and will soon be responsible for delivering around 2,000 courses each year. Alongside the College’s Executive Director, three Directors of Training provide judicial leadership for our training programmes and international training partnerships with jurisdictions around the world.
This an exciting opportunity to join the Strategy, Governance and Change team which sits at the centre of the Judicial College. The team leads on strategy implementation, ensuring we have the right policies and governance arrangements in place and supporting change readiness to help the College meet the future needs of the judiciary. We work closely with the College’s Executive Director and three judicial Directors of Training.
**About the role**
As a Judicial Support Officer, you will lead the end-to-end process to recruit judicial trainers, including proactively identifying the need for recruitment, maintaining accurate records and updating our systems, drafting recruitment and appointment materials, running campaigns, briefing and advising the judicial Directors of Training and supporting the induction of newly appointed trainers.
You will also provide cross-cutting support to the team, including contributing to the Strategy and Change function within the team as well as the Policy function. For example, this could include helping make sure we have the right systems, processes and information in place to monitor the training programme and implementation of the College’s strategy.
**Key deliverables for the role include**:
- Advising the Directors of Training on trainer capacity and new appointments that need to be made to ensure the College has the correct level of trainers
- Planning and running competitions to appoint judicial trainers and managing the appointments process
- Help and support the Governance and Policy function with responses to enquiries such as admin support on policy work, external reports and recommendations, Ministerial correspondence, parliamentary questions and Freedom of Information Act requests.
- Providing administrative support to the Directors of Training, working alongside three HEO Support Managers such as organising meetings and gathering responses.
- Supporting the running of judicial training committees, including helping to prepare papers and track progress on actions
- Leading or contributing to briefing for the Directors of Training and the College’s Executive Director
- Working flexibly and proactively to support the wider work of the team and the College, contributing to the overall impact and professionalism of the team
**Essential skills**
- Have strong verbal and written communication skills
- Be able to work with accuracy and an eye for detail, while maintaining a good sense of the bigger picture and organisational objectives
- Good IT skills i.e., working with databases, Excel, and Word
- Be proactive and able to organise, plan and prioritise to meet sometimes short deadlines whilst being flexible to competing demands
- Be a collaborative team player and able to build confident and effective relationships with a wide range of stakeholders at all levels
