**Main function of job**: To handle RTA portal cases that have been set up directly by FRU, where the
primary and immediate need is to quantify the level of personal injury and special damages and to swiftly
and efficiently obtain the documentary evidence in support of those claims and thereafter to submit such
via the RTA and OIC Portals, and if necessary to proceed to Stage 3 of the portal process, to obtain full
and final settlement in accordance with the Pre-Action Protocol for Low Value Personal Injury Claims,
CPR Part 8 and Practice Direction 8B. In the event that is not possible due to the case falling out of the
portal and/or for reasons of complexity and/or for technical reasons, to identify this at an early stage to
enable the case to be passed to an alternative team within RL.
The intention in relation to work within the Red Team is to prepare the matter for settlement and to
achieve as swift a settlement as possible, and if that cannot be achieved within the portal process, to
hand over the matter to alternative teams to be progressed.
Should a matter be approaching limitation, to be deal accordingly to protect the client's position, thereby
issuing Court proceedings, requesting a stay of proceedings and subsequently progressing the matter
appropriately thereafter, ensuring that Court deadlines are diarised and dealt with in good time.
An ability to liaise professionally both verbally and in writing with clients, medical experts, Court and
colleagues will be required.
An integral part of the role requires instruction of medical experts (via MedCo as necessary) and other
treatment providers, reviewing medical evidence to identify the nature and extent of the injuries
sustained, any other potential claims for which compensation may be recoverable and the need for
treatment and/or further investigations to be carried out, and an ability to value the personal injury
element of the claim at the appropriate time using JC Guidelines and case law.
The role will by its nature involve the ability to work in an extremely organised manner skilfully utilising
Solcase and Outlook diary systems and live file lists to ensure that evidence is efficiently collated and
assessed before being appropriately submitted to the third party.
Strong, proactive chasing skills will be required, as will an ability to prioritise appropriately according to
risk. There will be a clear emphasis on proactivity and the need to progress files within suitable time
frames and in particular within those time frames determined by the portal rules.
It will be the file handler's role to identify the key special damage issues that are the heart of the case, to
address those issues, gain evidence in support of them and to create a position where the value and
extent of the claim has crystallized.
The role will require a clear ability to work with and under the instruction of the Team Leader but
with an organised Solcase/Outlook/diary focussed approach
Strong Solcase skills and the ability to process volume work swiftly
To demonstrate an ability to communicate strongly and clearly with clients to obtain required
information, both verbally and in writing
