**The Opportunity**:

- At Leonardo, we have a fantastic new opportunity for a Head of Product Safety. Leonardo has an exciting opportunity to contribute at a senior level, to the design and certification of an expanding portfolio of world class Mission Critical and Flight Safety Involved Airborne Systems. The Head of Product Safety within the Radar and Advanced Targeting Systems (RATS) Line of Business (LoB) leads a team of ‘go-to’ experts that contribute vital expertise to help manage the Product Safety and Product Environmental Impact Management risks of the Company’s product portfolio which include prototypes and technology demonstrators, loaned items, production standard equipment, support equipment and services.-
Reporting to the RATS LoB Chief Engineer (Design Integrity), you will be responsible for a team of Safety Management Specialists providing technical advice to the IPTs on the setting of Safety Objectives and Acceptable Means of Compliance to satisfy the Basis of Certification for products across the LoB, using airborne standards such as SAE ARP4754A/4761, RTCA/DO-178C and DO-254.The role will include an initial focus on the development of engineering staff and process capability, embedding the objectives of ARP4754A/4761 within the Systems Engineering function’s processes and procedures and the RATS LoB’s implementation of the Leonardo Electronics UK Business Unit’s PSEIMS, taking into consideration the impact of Cyber Security on Product Safety and the Continued Airworthiness of the platforms the Company’s products are installed on. Working closely with the Engineering delivery disciplines, you will also contribute to delivery of the future product portfolio on time and within budget.The RATS LoB is located in Edinburgh and Newcastle and occasional travel will be required to other locations within the UK and Internationally.- You will work closely with supportive, talented and innovative engineers across the Engineering delivery disciplines, contributing to continual improvement of the Engineering Capability of the Leonardo Electronics UK Business Unit, whilst building strong relationships with our customers and partners.**What you will do**:

- Day to day, you will be working closely with the RATS LoB Engineering delivery disciplines and IPTs, satisfying the regulatory requirements of airborne systems, including Mission Critical and Flight Safety Involved systems, often with demanding Product Security requirements.- You will:
- Lead a Team of Safety Management Specialists, supporting IPTs to:

- o Identify the Basis of Certification.
- o Support the development of conceptual designs with executable development and certification plans, selecting the Acceptable Means of Compliance (AMC) appropriate to the criticality of the product and the Basis of Certification.
- o Assure that the appropriate governance (internal and external), legal and regulatory obligations are met, through the independent assessment of Product Safety and Product Environmental Impact Management risks at Design Reviews and audits (internal and external).
- Provide independent assessment through Product Design Reviews and Software and Firmware gate reviews.
- Participate in Product Safety Panels as a specialist advisor in the management and resolution of Product Safety and Product Environmental incidents.
- Ensure that the data associated with LoB Product Safety incidents in the Company corrective action management system is correct and up to date.
- Operate as the Safety Signatory to the Certification of Design.
- Provide the focus for the provision of independent specialist guidance and information on best practices, standards and legislation.
- Promote the specialism and Safety Culture within Leonardo.
- Participate in internal and external standards working groups and with academic partners covering Development Standards and Acceptable Means of Compliance using various established and emerging standards
- Represent the RATS LoB at the Leonardo Electronics UK Business Unit Design Integrity Product Safety Special Interest Group.
- Continually improve the Company Product Safety and Environmental Impact Management System.**What we are looking for**:

- You really must have:
- You will have demonstrable and relevant experience analysing complex systems from a Product Safety and Product Environmental Impact Management perspective with the ability to scope and deliver high quality outputs to time and cost against developed programmes of work.
- You will have demonstrable experience using a range of safety tools and techniques to provide specialist advice and guidance on complex projects within an Electronics or Avionics discipline.
e.g. Hazard Log Management, Hazard Identification, Functional Failure Analysis, Fault Tree Analysis, Risk Assessment and ALARP justifications;
- Ability to obtain SC security clearance and work within UKEO and US ITAR TAA restrictions.
