Role Summary The Clinical Training Lead for Ophthalmic Theatre plays an active role in the development and delivery of Newmedicas clinical learning and development strategy. They work alongside other health professionals and the Learning & Development team to design and support the delivery of a programme of ophthalmic theatre skills training, centering around our core offering of cataract, glaucoma, oculoplastics, VR and retinal specialties. Helping clinical teams provide care locally to the highest possible clinical standards and sharing best practice nationally is essential. This is national role and as such will require regular UK travel.
Key Responsibilities Clinical Learning and Development To contribute to the development of the clinical learning and development plan for both non-registered and registered staff groups in ophthalmic theatres To assist in the design and delivery of clinical training in both theatre and outpatient environments, utilising a blended learning approach across all Newmedica services To play a role in the development of ongoing assessment for clinically-based roles Facilitate a cultue of team work across learning and development Be involved with the planning and delivery of regular training sessions including theatre induction, utilising technology to reduce travel where possible Support a growing network of in-service clinical trainers and assessors, including biometry champions at each of our locations to deliver clinical training to the appropriate standard Governance Ensure that training programmes integrate the latest national and professional standards of practice to promote consistent high-quality care and supervision across services Present programme updates at committees and forums such as the Medical Advisory Committee and Theatre Practitioner Network as directed Work with stakeholders including National Theatre Lead and Theatre Practitioner Network to ensure appropriate standards of training, assessment and practice are met Provide guidance and support to other Support Office functions, notably the Quality and Patient Safety Team, to aid in development of policy and procedure and meet regulatory requirements Professional Duties To work within the requirements of the code of practice and standards of the Nursing and Midwifery Council or Health and Care Professions Council To be responsible for and demonstrate, committment to Continuing Professional Development and Clinical Governance Clinical Duties and Responsibilities To undertake training and supervision duties in admissions, theatre and discharge as an ophthalmic nurse or ODP, as required To perform a comprehensive range of theatre skills, diagnostic procedures and clinical assessments, making clinical decisions using own judgement and initiative and escalating to senior colleagues where appropriate To ensure that patient confidentiality is maintained at all times To ensure that evidence based clinical standards of care to patients are achieved To ensure the delivery of agreed quality standards, taking any necessary action to remedy shortcomings in services that contribute to patient care To be responsible for ensuring the safe use of specialist equipment Administrative Duties Support In-Service Trainers, local champions and trainees to feedback specific issues to Service Managers Support development and/or revision of company policies and standards of practice within field of expertise Collate feedback and work with the HR/L&D teams to support the continuous improvement of the training programmes To produce accurate training records together with comprehensive patient health records where appropriate To support senior staff in the investigation of complaints and clinical incidents, ensuring that any investigations are thorough and that action plans are completed to enable lessons to be learned and shared To ensure that infection or safety risks are identified and acted on
