Specialist Paediatric Diabetes Dietitian

We have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated band 6 Dietitian to join our friendly and pro-active Nutrition and Dietetics Service at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Gateshead.
We are a fully integrated team comprising of 15 Dietitians, 3 Dietetic Assistant Practitioners, 3 Specialist Nutrition Nurses and 3 Clerical Officers.
This permanent post offers an enthusiastic Dietitian with an interest or previous experience in paediatric diabetes to develop their skills and knowledge and provide a high quality dietetic service.
As a department we will support your individual personal development with regular CPD sessions and training opportunities and clinical supervision. Service development opportunities include involvement within National audit projects and teaching opportunities with nursing and medical staff as well as staff within educational facilities.
As well as supporting junior members of staff, you will be actively involved in student training and we currently take dietetic students and support dietetic apprenticeships from Teesside University for their clinical placements.
- To provide a specialist Dietetic service to children with diabetes and their families across Gateshead.
- To manage a caseload of complex patients, within outpatient clinics and Children’s Emergency Care Department and via home and school visits (as required).
- To act as a clinical specialist in paediatric dietetics within a multiagency team including specialist nurses, paediatricians and other Allied Health Professions (AHP’s).
- To provide additional input into a general paediatric dietetic caseload.
Based in the North East of England we provide a range of hospital and community health services from our leading facilities, including the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Blaydon urgent care centre and Bensham Hospital, all within Gateshead.
Established in 2005, we were one of the first foundation trusts in the country and since then have consistently achieved the highest levels of care for patients.
We now employ around 4,800 staff and currently provide 444 hospital beds across the Gateshead region.

Working within the MDT, you will promote the profile of dietetics and be the source of nutritional expertise, providing education and training for staff to support the delivery of a specialist dietetic service to children with diabetes and their families across Gateshead.
You will participate in audit, monitoring, evaluation and development of the dietetic services.
You will supervise junior members of staff, students and apprentices as required.
