**We are St Helens Borough Council**
Located in the heart of the Northwest close to Liverpool, Manchester and Lancashire, St Helens is a modernising Council which is passionate and ambitious for the children and families we support, our communities and our workforce. As part of our transformation journey, we continue to build on our progress and put children firmly at the centre of our care. We can only do this because of our highly valued, skilled, and supported workforce.
We are offering an opportunity for a motivated public health professional and an inspiring leader to join our dynamic Public Health Senior Leadership team in St Helens. This is an exciting time to join our established and well-respected forward thinking public health team, which has achieved recognition and awards for innovative initiatives, such as the Inequalities Commission.
The work plan involves providing strategic leadership on healthy weight, physical activity, food and nutrition, children and young people’s health and wellbeing, teenage pregnancy and public health commissioning. However, there is some flexibility on work areas based on your interests and expertise to suit your professional development and career aspirations.
As part of Cheshire and Merseyside, St Helens is supported by Champs, which is a strong and well-established Public Health Collaborative network which has been highlighted in regional and national publications. St Helens is a metropolitan borough in Merseyside, England, situated between Liverpool and Manchester. It's a semi-rural area with a strong sense of community and a rich history, including industrial heritage and a world-famous rugby league team.
St Helens offers a welcoming culture, with Public Health being embedded within the whole council, and excellent partnerships in place across the public and private sector, local NHS, and voluntary sector. The St Helens Public Health department provides a supportive learning and training environment, and this role would suit an experienced public health specialist seeking to gain Consultant experience.
We have flexible ways of working in place in St Helens, generally with 2 days per week on site, and you will be able to work virtually from home and be part of a forward-thinking public health team that sits within the Integrated Health and Social Care directorate, which also includes the Children's and Adult Social Care.
Interviews will be held in October.
All applicants must be registered with the UKPHR via the specialist training route or be within six months of registration at the date of the interview. Applicants must provide proof (letter of confirmation from their TPD or the CCT) at interview.
Applicants that are non-UK trained, will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT.
**This post is Politically Restricted**
**Equality & Diversity**
St Helens Borough Council respects and values the individuality that every employee brings. We encourage applicants from diverse backgrounds, who share our values, our commitment to inclusion, and who will help us on our journey to transform our organisation.
