Job Introduction
**Consultant in Public Health (Healthy People) - Solihull Council**
Solihull Council is seeking an outstanding qualified Public Health professional to lead a strategic portfolio that improves the health and wellbeing of our residents.
As a senior member of the Directorate of Public Health, reporting to the Director of Public Health, you will lead work to improve the health of working-aged and older adults, children and young people as well as wider work to embed prevention in core business. You will also work closely with partners across Birmingham, Solihull and the West Midlands to support the delivery of collaborative programmes.
**What You’ll Be Responsible For**:
You will provide expert leadership across several key areas:
- ** Strategic Development**: Drive the implementation of local strategies to improve health and wellbeing, ensuring they reflect local needs and priorities.
- ** Data & Insight**: Use evidence, data and community insights to inform service transformation and system change, working with NHS, local government, and wider partners.
- ** Prevention**: Champion upstream investment and interventions to address the wider determinants of health and strengthen prevention across care pathways.
- ** Commissioning & Quality Improvement**: Provide expert public health advice to support evidence-based commissioning and continuous improvement of services and programmes.
- ** Community Engagement**: Embed co-design and community-led delivery into core business, working closely with local communities and stakeholders.
**What You’ll Bring**:
A qualified public health professional, you’ll be adept at navigating complex public health challenges in a multi-agency environment, with strong intellectual rigour, political awareness, and excellent negotiation and leadership skills. Flexibility, sensitivity, and a collaborative mindset are essential.
