A rare opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Specialist Practitioner (37.5 hours/week) in the well-established Mental Health Liaison Service for Older Adults. Operating 7 days a week from 9 to 5, weekend shifts are shared across the team.
The service supports Hull University Teaching Hospitals Trust by providing mental health assessments, interventions, and support to patients aged 65+ attending Hull Royal Infirmary’s Emergency Department or admitted to Hull Royal or Castle Hill Hospital. Presentations may include acute distress, self-harm, suicidal ideation, or organic/functional mental health issues. The team also advises ED and ward staff on management strategies.
Applicants must have strong knowledge of mental illness, risk management, dementia, and delirium, and be confident in high-risk situations. Key qualities include enthusiasm, adaptability, flexibility, and a commitment to high standards of care.
In this role you will;
Offer a Mental Health and Risk assessment service to a needs led patient group presenting at the general hospital and ED due to acute distress, acts of deliberate self-harm or suicide, experiencing organic and/or functional presentations
Be committed to the parity of esteem agenda, and work closely with both physical and mental health clinicians to ensure a seamless delivery of care.
Provide a Mental Health consultation, liaison and advice service throughout the departments.
Assist and supporting general hospital colleagues in making decisions about treatment and care in complex situations.
Provide formal and informal education and case consultation to registered and unregistered staff.
Provide a communication structure between secondary mental health services, primary care and non-statutory services, as a means of ensuring the highest possible standards of patient care.
