Core Duties 1.1 To take a lead for the day-to-day organisation and maintenance of the RIS and PACS systems and their data, running statistical reports daily to highlight any problems and communicate the results to the relevant parties. 1.2 To problem solve issues ranging from incorrect image store by Radiographers to multiple equipment or system failure by analysing multiple pieces of non-concurring information. 1.3 To develop and maintain excellent communication with all parties involved with RIS and PACS, including end users, IM&T and equipment suppliers, acting as liaison between them when necessary. 1.4 Monitor PACS equipment performance (including specialised Imaging reporting workstations) and provide first line system support.

1.5 Develop access strategies to ensure that images are always available, wherever and whenever they are required. 1.6 Assist the RIS/PACS Management in ensuring that the Trust can maximise the benefits that the systems bring to patient care and to develop strategies to monitor and improve data quality input. 1.7 The Post holder will be a source of expert knowledge in the transfer of data (both images and reports) between the Liverpool Womens Hospital NHS Trust and all other organisations. 1.8 To develop and implement several departmental changes concurrently, where information and workflows may conflict, showing flexibility where necessary.

1.9 To test new system releases and configure to Trust needs. 1.10 Deal with requests for statistical/analytical data and develop stats to interrogate the RIS system. E.g. Activity figures for Finance, Departmental Audits; advising the end user how to interpret the results.

1.11 To validate Radiology data to ensure the output of stats run from RIS system are accurate, using extensive knowledge of Departmental working practices and procedures to ensure data integrity. Procedural Duties 2.1 Authorise System Request for Change (RFC) 2.2 To assist in co-ordinating upgrades to the system, whilst minimising service disruption and undertake appropriate communication with providers and users. 2.3 Assist in the development and maintenance of a mechanism for recording equipment faults. 2.4 Assist in the development and maintenance of disaster recovery plans and contingency plans in case of equipment failure 2.5 To identify and investigate problems and queries relating to data and information processing and management and to take appropriate remedial actions in response.

2.6 To monitor, measure and report on system issues to the RIS/PACS Management. 2.7 Perform verification of studies that are broken during automatic RIS validation and correct faults with archived data created by other system users. 2.8 Liaise with other hospitals to ensure that the best practice techniques developed elsewhere can be utilised at this Trust. People 3.1 To take a lead role in the training of staff on a variety of different systems, including RIS, PACS, OSIRIX and IEP (Image Exchange Portal).

3.2 Train Imaging staff to become key operators of the system, enabling the cascade training of existing staff and the induction training of new staff. 3.3 Cascade information relating to hardware and software developments to such staff groups as may be necessary. 3.4 Produce and maintain training manuals and instructional material to assist all staff with the use of digital imaging equipment / software. Information 4.1 Maintain awareness of self and others on the medico-legal issues associated with the storage and access of patient data on the computer systems.

4.2 Ensure that data and information are stored securely and that transmitted data and information complies with local and national policies and regulations. 4.3 Accurately record data on the Imaging computer systems including the RIS, HIS and PACS 4.4 Maintain an accurate log of RIS and PACS assets showing their current performance status and system information (IP address, location, reference number etc) Resources 5.1 Oversee the relevant equipment Quality Assurance programme, to optimise equipment performance. 5.2 Be aware of the need for financial control and make efficient use of resources. Education, Training & Development 6.1 Undertake training on the use and operation of the PACS and RIS Systems, to Administrator level.

6.2 Act as a personal and professional role model. 6.3 Acknowledge and address areas of knowledge or skill deficiency. 6.4 Participate as core trainer for IT skills according to own knowledge, skills base and opportunity. 6.5 The post holder has a responsibility to keep abreast of the latest changes taking place in the PACS/RIS IT systems.
