Head Barista

The Thirsty Scholar, a coffee house/bar in Marylebone, is looking for a Head Barista to run the coffee house operation during the day, and on occasion, supervise the licenced areas in the bar and live music venue in the evening.

The Thirsty Scholar, located within International Students House, near Regent’s Park, offers a bar, specialty coffee and a food service to the local and student community. International Students House is a charity offering accommodation, social and support services for resident and non-resident British and overseas students.

**THE ROLE OF HEAD BARISTA / DUTY LICENSEE**
- Take orders, prepare and serve hot and cold drinks, including speciality coffee and tea.
- Provide an excellent level of drinks service in an efficient, polite & friendly manner.
- Liaise with marketing to highlight seasonal opportunities and provide specialist product based promotional/digital content for relevant marketing campaigns.
- Take a pro-active lead in creating and upselling of products
- Monitor and minimise wastage.
- Receipt, checking and organising of all stock deliveries.
- Act as Duty Licensee during evening bar service on occasion.
- Work with the contract catering team to maximise food sales.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness and appearance in all work areas

The usual shift will be 7:30am - 3:30pm Monday - Friday, with occasional evening or weekend hours.

**WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR**
- Experience of working as a Barista, ideally in a specialty coffee shop
- Have a passion for coffee/food/drinks service
- Hold a personal alcohol licence or be willing to undertake this training and responsibility
- Great listening and communication skills.
- A happy, engaging and positive personality.
- Friendly and customer focused.
- Ability to deal with pressure and manage situations with tact and diplomacy.
- Ability to work unsupervised and on your own initiative, as well as working as part of a team
- Good attention to detail.
- Have the right to work in the UK
