Locum Consultant in Intensive Care Medicine

Main duties of the post The successful applicant will be part of a team comprising of 8 Intensive Care Consultants, with on-call commitments for Intensive Care and not Anaesthesia (there is a separate on call service for these two specialties). There will be 10 planned activities (PAs) per week, of which 8 will be direct clinical care (this is negotiable for those wishing to be considered for LTFT employment. The successful applicant will also be expected to play an active part in the professional supervision, training and management of trainee medical staff. The on-call commitment will be 1 in 6 for intensive care with prospective cover, covering Homerton Hospital only the on-call nights would not necessarily fall on a set day.
The rota is set out in blocks of days to ensure as much continuity of care as possible. In addition, the post holder will be expected to: Contribute to the provision of a comprehensive and efficient Intensive Care Medicine service. Provide evidence-based care when appropriate. Have regard at all times to the clinical and quality standards set out in the Patients Charter and the local purchasers contracts.
Participate fully in the management of the department. Provide teaching and training relevant to their duties; the post holder will participate fully in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programmes.
