Our amazing charity client is looking for a Senior Media Officer,to work collaboratively with social and digital to support an integrated, creative approach to delivering and managing content across all of our clients external channels.
**What the role involves**:
- Shape media plans and activity, and generate media coverage of the client and its work while managing arising media issues and delivering a high-quality press office service for journalists.
- Develop and maintain relationships with journalists across a range of sectors, and work closely with colleagues, particularly in policy, parliamentary and fundraising teams to understand complex issues and proactively seek opportunities for relevant mediaactivity.
- Advise and negotiate on media objectives and activities.
- Monitor the national news agenda to identify opportunities or issues for attention, and proactively sell-in news stories and features to national media to increase the charity’s profile and visibility of learning disability.
- Support the team, including deputising for Media Manager when necessary, to ensure team efficiencies and optimal ways of working.
- Prepare and brief spokespeople, advising on technique and tools for handling media interviews.
- Translate complex issues into press releases and statements that are easy to digest across a range of audiences.
- Develop a strong understanding of learning disability and contribute to the charity vision of a world where people with a learning disability are valued equally, listened to and included.
**Experience you need**:
- Background in journalism and/or communications.
- Demonstrable experience of working in a busy press office, and liaising with media.
- Translating complex information and evidence into compelling digital and media outputs.
- Experience of achieving and evaluating media coverage which supports strategic objectives.
- Experience of advising others on media communication opportunities and sensitivities.
- Sound knowledge of current affairs and the news media landscape.
- Experience of developing productive relationships to support media team aims.
**Skills you need**:
- Evidence of producing high-level, clear, persuasive and accessible press releases and statements.
- Excellent IT skills including Word, Outlook and Excel.
- Outstanding communication skills - written, verbal, negotiation and presentation.
- Proficient project management and organisational skills.
- Ability to identify appropriate and effective channels and technologies to deliver communications.
- Ability to develop and maintain constructive relationships with stakeholders and balance different demands.
- Relevant media contacts.
- Ability to deliver and create media plans, campaigns.
- Resilience and ability to remain calm under pressure.
- Commitment to valuing inclusivity, equality and diversity
- Driving license - some travel to London office and meetings across the UK as required for media conferences etc.
NOTE: The post holder will be required to take part in an out-of-hours on-call rota. On occasion the post holder will be required to travel across the UK and overnight stays may be required. Flexible approach to working hours/days - occasionally required towork weekends and attend evening events and meetings.
