A great opportunity has arisen for a registered mental health professional with high-level experience to join the safeguarding team at NUH, the post will be a band 7 full time substantive post.

We are looking for a dynamic, motivated and enthusiastic Registered Practitioner, who is experienced in mental health services to join the Safeguarding team at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust to progress the wider mental health strategy in acute Trusts and support staff to fulfil their statutory responsibilities.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will need to convey and present complex information written and verbal, formally and informally as appropriate. They will work together with the Named Professionals in the development of evidence based patient care policies and procedures and audit.

The post holder will also need to work in conjunction with the safeguarding Adults Matron and Adult Team Leader to support the Trust wide safeguarding training strategy. To implement the education and training across the Trust with the support of the Safeguarding team, to record, monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the Safeguarding and mental health training strategy, ensuring all staff have access to the level of education and training required.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

In conjunction with the Adult Lead Nurse for Safeguarding and Head of Safeguarding, support the review and evaluation of regional and national guidelines, in particular the Nottingham/ Nottinghamshire ICB Mental Health Strategy and develop close links with external partners to ensure the implementation of any actions across the organisation support the ongoing development of a new Mental Health Strategy at NUH.

Be a visible leader in the clinical areas, wards and ED, to support and advice the clinical staff in relation to the management of Mental Health section papers and providing education/ advice for all aspects of caring for a patient with Mental Health concerns.

Become an effective resource to clinical teams Trust Wide to provide supervision for staff members involved in cases, which involve care of a patient with Mental Health needs.

To facilitate and support staff in accurate completion of all Mental Health section paperwork documentation.

To undertake the management of mental health section papers, liaising with Nottinghamshire Healthcare Trust to ensure correct process are followed.

Advising and contributing to mental health services and support the learning disability team and the autism development plans in order to promote new initiatives and plans through the Mental Health Steering Group.

To support health education/promotion strategies relating to patients with mental health needs.

In conjunction with the Adult Lead Nurse for Safeguarding and Head of Safeguarding, liaise closely with other health, social care professionals, police and legal departments to ensure a co-ordinated approach and high quality care is provided, including attendance at case conferences and reviews if appropriate.

In conjunction with the Adult Lead Nurse for Safeguarding and Head of Safeguarding, represent NUH at external meetings as required.

Take appropriate steps to ensure that a safe environment is maintained for patients, staff and visitors within the area of responsibility, by producing risk assessments and action plans for any hazards in the environment e.g. ligature risk assessments.

Provide effective and appropriate support to Trust staff, patients and carers and actively participate in joint planning meetings to facilitate patient admission, transfers, discharges and transfers between departments and other health care facilities.

Effectively, communicates with multi-professional and multi-agency teams.

Works with the Adult Safeguarding Lead, Safeguarding Specialist Workers and Named Doctors for Safeguarding and the Harm Free team at Nottingham U
