Substance Misuse and Mental Health Practitioner

This post is eligible for a Golden Hello payment of £2,750 for new starters who are external to the Trust. This is payable in 3 instalments over a 2 year period. This payment is only eligible to new starters who do not already hold a contract of employment with the Trust. This post also includes paid enhancements for unsocial hours working during night, weekends and bank holidays.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dedicated and enthusiastic Substance Misuse Practitioner to join our team of multidisciplinary clinicians providing care to patients within Nottingham City. This is a pivotal role working across specialist mental health services and substance use provider services.

In Nottinghamshire there are 3 Integrated Care Partnerships (ICP) which cover Mid Nottinghamshire, South Nottinghamshire and Nottingham City. The Substance Use Practitioner roles work across teams/services within a dedicated ICP to offer high quality interventions to service users and advice, training and consultation to colleagues working within the locality.

This role will work across the Nottingham City ICP focusing on enhancing substance use capability within adult mental health services and improving the delivery of evidence-based care for service users with co-existing substance use/mental health conditions. In addition the post holder will provide mental health specialism within partner substance use services.

The post holder will work with colleagues of all disciplines to develop knowledge, skills and confidence in working with people with substance use, ensuring that it remains a core aspect of the work of all clinicians.

To provide expertise and contribute to substance use being systematically identified and responded to in a timely, evidence-based manner

To implement systems to ensure all service users are being assessed for alcohol and drug use as part of a comprehensive assessment and information is recorded in line with Trust standards

To provide specialist assessment and clinical formulation to clients with complex mental health needs and co-occurring substance use.

To provide expertise and contribute to development of effective care plans to support patients with co-existing substance use/mental health conditions

Forge strong links with partner substance use services - it is expected that the post holder will spend a proportion of their time working within partner agencies to deliver training, advice and consultation in relation to mental health.

The post holder will act as a bridge between LMHTs and partner agencies to identify and support patients who may need transfer of care between services and provide support to facilitate this transfer.
