**The Housing Assessment Officer role**:
We have an exciting opportunity for a **Housing Assessment Officer** to join our Assessments team

**Key duties and responsibilities of our Housing Assessment Officer**:

- Have operational responsibility for the assessment and special assessment process for applicants to the Housing Register.
- Investigate and establish an applicant’s circumstances to enable an accurate first line priority decision to be made.
- Ensure the effective administration and maintenance of the housing register by completing reviews within the published timescales or where other circumstances dictate.
- Provide advice and guidance to applicants around their priority on the waiting list and other housing options which may be available to them, including the rationale for the decision.
- Adopt and operate a proactive approach to preventing homelessness in conjunction with the council’s Housing Options, Advice and Homelessness Prevention Team.
- Mitigate risk, ensure safeguarding and provide excellent service by making timely, full, and accurate referrals to internal teams or partner services where appropriate.
- Ensure that appeals are dealt with in line with the published appeals procedure.

**What we’re looking for in our Housing Assessment Officer**:

- Level 4 / HNC qualification or relevant experience in a similar decision-making role.
- An awareness of current housing issues, including of housing law, policies, and practice.
- Ability to travel as necessary to meet the needs of the post.
- Ability to prepare and present information concisely and clearly and adapt communication for a range of audiences.
