Job Title: Substance Misuse Community Engagement Facilitator - Substance Misuse Recovery (Ethnically Diverse Community Focus)

Location: Within the Birmingham area

**Salary**: £20

Contract Type: Freelance Contract

Reports to: Managing Director / Service Manager

**About the Role**

We are looking for a compassionate, proactive, and community-driven Community Engagement Facilitator to support individuals within the ethnically diverse communities affected by substance misuse. In this role, you will work directly in community settings, meeting people where they are to build trust, offer practical support, and connect individuals to recovery services. You’ll play a crucial role in reducing harm, breaking down stigma, and increasing access to culturally
- sensitive substance misuse support for individuals and families who may face systemic barriers to care.

Key Responsibilities
- Conduct community-based outreach to engage individuals affected by drug and/or alcohol misuse.
- Build trusting relationships and provide non-judgmental, person-centred support.
- Deliver harm reduction advice, brief interventions, and onward referrals to treatment and support Services.
- Act as a bridge between individuals and services, supporting engagement, attendance, and retention in treatment.
- Advocate for individuals, helping them navigate systems such as healthcare, housing, and criminal justice.
- Work closely with local community organisations, faith groups, and grassroots networks to strengthen referral pathways.
- Participate in community events and awareness-raising activities aimed at reducing stigma and increasing visibility of support.
- Maintain accurate records and contribute to data collection, reporting, and service evaluation.
- Support service development through feedback, community consultation, and culturally-informed practice.

**Education and Experience**
- Minimum Level 3 qualification in Health and Social Care, Substance Misuse, Mental Health, Community Work, or a related field.
- Additional training or certification in areas such as harm reduction, safeguarding, motivational interviewing, or trauma-informed care is highly desirable.
- A willingness to undertake ongoing professional development and relevant training as required.
- Experience working with individuals with substance misuse issues.
- Strong understanding of the socio-cultural challenges affecting ethnically diverse communities.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and group facilitation skills.
- A Commitment to anti-discriminatory practice, equity, and cultural humility.
- Have an Enhanced DBS check

**Desirable**

Additional training in trauma-informed care or motivational interviewing
- Experience working in community-based or third-sector settings.
