The Operational Logistics (Op Lo) Directorate has been established to provide a national delivery model for front line logistics to Border Force (BF).

The Command covers three primary areas, known as pillars which cover various work areas within Op Lo.

The pillars are:

- Delivery & Support - Health & Safety, Op Lo Spokes, and the Secretariat.
- Infrastructure - Estates, National Frontier Approvals Unit (NFAU), Cyclamen Port Reconfiguration Team, the Queen’s Warehouse and Criminal Justice Unit (CJU).
- Services - Procurement, Contract Monitoring and Assets and Fleet.
- Op Lo operates on a Hub & Spoke model. The Hub (pillars) provide centralised logístical expertise whilst directing out and fielding in requirements to BF frontline via the Op Lo Spokes. Op Lo Spokes are the Op Lo face to the frontline customers and field all customer requirements and enquiries.

As a Border Force Assistant Officer within the Queen’s Warehouse (QW) you will be part the Operational Logistics Directorate providing a 24 hour a day, 365 days a year service to operations undertaken at the UK’s 140 seaports, airports, 200+ general aviation ports, postal depots and international rail network.

The nature of this work can be sometimes difficult and pressurised therefore, for this role, team working is imperative and making well balanced decisions is key.

Because of the work we do and where we do it, Border Force teams can operate in sometimes difficult and dynamic environments. These are public facing law enforcement roles where the work is often fast-paced and changeable - our apprentices need to be able to respond to challenges in a calm and professional manner.

You will work closely with key internal and external partners including Border Force, His Majesty’s Revenue & Customs (HMRC), National Crime Agency (NCA) and external contractors employed to store, move and dispose of seized goods.

This role involves a large amount of manual handling within a warehouse setting. A good level of physical fitness is required for this role.

**Training and Development**

During your initial training period you will not be working shifts. Your initial classroom-based training will be for 10 days, which includes induction to Border Force, completing mandatory e-learning and training on local processes and procedures. There will also be a mentoring period of 4-6 weeks where you will be assigned a buddy, receive on the job training, and join the shift working roster.

Your training will take place at Queens Warehouse Dover, at Old Park Barracks on site. You will receive full joining instructions closer to your start date.

**Person specification**:

- Working with a range of partners, both internal and external.
- Responding to complex queries from Case Officers and partners.
- Manually handling goods in and out of the warehouse up to 10kg. For items in excess of 10kg, the necessary equipment will be provided.
- Following agreed processes for retaining seized goods and progressing to timely disposal with Case Officers.
- Using Queen's Warehouse IT systems to process all receipts and disposals, ensuring accurate audit trails.
- Ensuring all documents relating to receipts and disposals are signed off accurately.
- Following Health and Safety rules and security procedures.
- Attending contractor sites and witnessing disposals of High Risk, High Value goods.
- Undertaking Notebook training and recording for potential court cases.
- Aligning with Border Force values and providing support to other Queen’s Warehouses when required.
- Working with Haulage, Storage and Disposal team to arrange disposals.

You may be required to carry out other duties within the scope of your grade and within the limits of your skill, competence and training.

**Essential criteria**
- Excellent communication skills.

- Ability to work as part of a team and actively contribute toward team goals.
- A strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.

**Desirable criteria**
- Previous warehouse experience.
