Our client, a Lancashire-based family business, is looking for a Health and Safety Officer to play a key role in ensuring health and safety is managed to a high standard. The role will involve ensuring legal compliance by conducting regular audits across multiple sites in Lancashire and other areas in the North of England.

**Reporting to the Head of Health & Safety, responsibilities for the role will include**:

- Assisting the Head of Health & Safety with ensuring legal and best practice compliance
- Working proactively with managers, supervisors and representatives of employee safety to maintain a culture of safe working practices
- Reviewing the quality of risk assessments and safe systems of work and where necessary, working with the management team to achieve the required standards
- Undertaking health and safety inspections and audits
- Reporting accidents / incidents to the Health & Safety Executive
- Providing the management team with assistance in health and safety investigations
- Advising on general health and safety matters and training
- Monitoring / reviewing the effectiveness of the health and safety training programme
- Chairing health and safety meetings
- Providing the Head of Health & Safety with regular performance reports
- Ensuring that personal knowledge on health and safety legislation and best practice is current
- Monitoring and reviewing the occupational health assessment system

**Essential skills and experience include**:

- NEBOSH General Certificate or Equivalent
- Must hold a UK driver's licence as the role requires travel to various sites (company car provided)
- Experience of Health and Safety auditing, ideally at Food Manufacturing sites
- Taking responsibility and having a positive attitude for challenges whilst attempting to find solutions
- Identifying areas for continuous improvement both personally and for the business
- Meeting deadlines, whilst not compromising on quality of work
- Being driven to make the workplace and processes as safe as they reasonably can be
- Always maintaining a high standard of professionalism and maintaining confidentiality when required

Working hours for this role are Monday to Friday, 38 hours per week during office hours, with flexibility to meet the needs of the business. The salary is competitive, with a fully expensed company car and an excellent benefits package.
