- £26,000 per annumAs part of an exciting new development at Blackpool Zoo, we are looking for an Experienced Senior Keeper to join our team and assist in the daily care and husbandry needs of our African lions and Amur tigers as well as other animals currently maintained on the section.

At an estimated cost of £1.5 million, our new big cat facility is currently under construction with completion expected within the next 2 months.

The successful applicant will be a proven team player with a good knowledge of the zoological industry and an understanding of the requirements needed to maintain and continuously improve the husbandry and welfare of the animal species under their care, helping to develop practices and procedures in line with modern zoo practice. You will be required to work with all species on the section in a safe and secure manner and will have excellent training skills using positive reinforcement methods.

As a senior keeper you may be expected to oversee and supervise other staff members and on occasions manage the section in the absence of the Section Manager and Deputy Section Manager, this is an excellent opportunity for anyone looking to progress in their career.

You will need to be hard working, physically fit, enthusiastic, and reliable. You should possess the Diploma in The Management of Zoo and Aquarium Animals (DMZAA) or an equivalent and have a minimum of five years keeping experience and a full valid driving licence. Previous experience supervising staff and working with big cats, adhering to EAZA/BIAZA/DEFRA guidelines is essential. Experience working with other category 1 animals is also desirable.
