Our Young Persons Worker teams offer vital support, training, and education to young people in their locality. They work with other agencies and professionals to safeguard their young clients, working with their families too where appropriate.

**About the job**
YZUP (We Are With You) is the commissioned young person's substance misuse service for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. The service works with children and young people aged 11 to 18 and delivers a range of education and training programmes for childrenand young people and professionals.
We also provide one-to-one treatment for young people experiencing problematic substance misuse, and intervention/support for those children affected by familial substance misuse.
All aspects of the service are free at the point of delivery and consists of prevention, treatment, and criminal justice interventions.
We have 2 vacancies for Young Persons Workers, one covering the West of the county (Penzance, Hayle, St Ives, Falmouth, Helston and the Lizard, Camborne, Pool, and Redruth), and one covering the North and East of the county (Bude, Saltash, Torpoint, Liskeard,Bodmin and Launceston) as part of a team.
The role of the worker is to screen and assess referrals that come into the service, and then co-produce a care plan with the young person, to be worked on through their treatment journey.
Our treatment model is developmentally informed and uses the stages of adolescent development to underpin the range of psycho-social
interventions the worker offers to the young person.
**Essential Skills**
To be able to do this job successfully, you will have:
- an OCN/NVQ Level 3 or equivalent or be willing and able to achieve this within 12 months
- evidence of training in child protection and safeguarding
- a successful track record of therapeutic work with young people in groups and 1:1 settings
- demonstrable experience of supporting young people in relation to mental health or substance misuse
- knowledge and understanding of health and safety, including assessing and managing high-risk situations for service users
- knowledge and understanding of issues affecting young people such as substance misuse, mental and physical health, and emotional wellbeing
- proven ability to carry out comprehensive assessments, assess risk, devise care plans, and deliver evidence-based interventions
- ability to build effective relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders
- IT skills, including Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and digital media
- able to visit other locations from time to time in order to deliver the services required
**Desirable Skills**
- A qualification in substance misuse, mental health, psychology, nursing, or youth work
- Experience of working within children's social care
- Knowledge of parenting skills and issues
- Screen and assess YP
- Co-produce the treatment care plan with the YP and review goal setting regularly
- Deliver a range of psycho-social interventions such as harm reduction information, motivational interviewing, solution-focused therapy, CBT-based interventions etc.
- Complete case management information/data and outcome monitoring.
- Represent YZUP at multi-agency community meetings in the Truro area.
- Be part of a multi-agency safeguarding team around the child and attend any relevant planning meetings
- Experienced youth worker but who has additional knowledge of substance misuse/mental health issues affecting YP.
